That was one of the saddest, sweetest movies I’ve ever seen.

I had watched it on TV many years ago with my John Wayne-lookalike late father. Up until that point, the only other times I had seen him shed a tear or cry was when his mother died, and also when he and I was by the stray dog that he had brought home’s side when a local Vet put him to ‘sleep’. The dog was very old and clearly in much pain. The Vet suggested we do it.

Anyway, my father had a real soft spot in his for for animals, particularly dogs. And even though it was just a cartoon, the way it was done really pulled on the heartstrings, strongly capturing the real life feelings many of us have for our pets.

I couldn’t find the complete movie on YouTube or anywhere else, except for HULU, where I think you now have to be a paid member of the site to view their videos, or certain videos? They do, at the moment at least, offer a free trial membership.

Thanks for sharing that. I can relate to it.

Thanks for the Snoopy/Peanuts reminder. I’m going to look for Snoopy movies for my 5 and 7 year old grandchildren.

I just recalled the plot of the Snoopy Come Home movie. A heartbroken little girl who used to own Snoopy, now very sick in the hospital, wrote Charlie Brown pleading to return the dog to her.

“Snoopy receives a letter from a girl named Lila, who has been in the hospital for three weeks for unspecified reasons and needs Snoopy to keep her company. Upon receiving the letter, Snoopy immediately sets off with Woodstock to go see her, leaving Charlie Brown completely in the dark as to who Lila is.

Linus decides to do some investigating, and discovers that Lila is Snoopy’s original owner; Charlie Brown faints upon hearing this.

“Lila is a female character in Peanuts and is Snoopy’s previous owner. She got him from the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm and they loved each other very much, but her family couldn’t keep him because the apartment they moved to did not allow dogs.

In a daily strip sequence from June 3 to 8, 1968, Lila comes to visit Snoopy, although she’s never actually seen during this episode. That August, Snoopy visits Lila in the hospital, wherein she makes her only appearance in the strip, on August 24.

Snoopy’s hospital visit is also depicted in the second Peanuts movie, Snoopy Come Home, where it leads to his decision to return to her; but he goes back to Charlie Brown after reading the No Dogs Allowed sign where she lives.”

“I just realized, btw, after looking at the closeup photos above, that the dog food that the dog grabbed before leaving the flooded house was a bag of DRY food. Not canned food.”

Now if he’d put cans of food into a sack and bugged out, that would be some dog!

Lol! Well, the cans could have been in a bag on the porch.

It’s been so long since I had a dog that I had forgotten about dry dog food. I only used it if mixed in with canned food. Because, clearly, a dog would prefer real meat or chicken with gravy over dry crunchy stuff.
