The Alabama GOP Senate runoff, now less than one month away, has turned nasty, with incumbent Sen. Luther Strange and front-runner former Judge Roy Moore throwing off the gloves for a bare knuckled brawl.
This week, Strange, appointed to the seat vacated by Attorney Jeff Sessions and backed by the GOP establishment and President Trump, threw the first punch in a blast at Moore as "another hypocritical politician."
... During the recent GOP primary, won by the conservative Moore, outside groups led the attack with the blessing of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Now Strange is directing the fire against Moore, famous nationally for fighting to keep a monument to the 10 Commandments in the Alabama Judicial Building and against same sex marriage.
In a note to supporters, Strange even called Moore a Democrat. "Roy Moore has been running for office since he first ran for an Etowah County circuit judge seat in 1982 as a Democrat," said the campaign note.
Moore, who has been promising to join Trump to drain the swamp of career politicians including McConnell, fired back yesterday.

Unfortunately, being a “Republican” doesn’t mean anything. In fact, it might be as derogatory as this weak attempt. I don’t care what party he affiliates as long as he will help move the country in the right direction.
When Strange accepted the Senate appointment he in actuality took a bribe in exchange for not investigating a crooked governor. Strange is scum.
Sending Moore to the Senate will put the fear of God in the GOP
hacks running for re-election. It will also help Trump get his agenda
passed. The message would be clear. Get behind Trumps agenda
or get primaried out. And that’s the message millions of Trump voters
want sent. God speed faithful Roy Moore.
I read that President Trump has backed off support for Strange....
One would hope so. We will see what Trump does.

When do people vote?
The non-Establishment candidates are going to need to receive donations from Trump supporters or you will get Establishment senators and congressmen.

I don't know that President Trump has backed off. It's more like he hasn't said anything since his initial backing of Strange.

Judge Moore needs no support. All he needs to say is that Strange is going to lose. When it’s over Moore can take the low road.

And since when have republicans been of any use (barring a select few)?
If Moore wins the nomination, are there enough GOPe/rinos who won’t support him to throw the seat to the Dem in the general? That’s a problem we have in Virginia with the John Warner wing of the party. Have been known to run an independent in order to defeat the conservative.
