While a third of American adults and one in six children are obese, a report Thursday suggests the rate of increase could be stabilizing in some states.
Citing statistics collected by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the report by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation said West Virginia had the highest obesity rate at 37.7 percent. Mississippi was second at 37.3 percent and Alabama and Arkansas were tied for third at 35.7 percent.
The report says the adult obesity rate increased between 2015 and 2016 in Colorado, Minnesota, Washington and West Virginia, fell in Kansas, and was stable elsewhere. Colorado had the lowest rate, at 22.3 percent.
This is the first time in 14 years of conducting the annual report that any state's rate dropped, and rates of increases in other states have begun to slow, Trust for America's Health President and CEO John Auerbach said.

Bingo, HFLC = winning
Ha! You bad, you bad! I really did lol.
The only reason I can figure out that it happens is the ratio odds are narrowing in my favor . . . too many guys my age have given up or are dead.
CDC says I’m “Normal.” I think I’m offended.

If I did, would I be arrested for sexual groping if I put my arms around her back?
Ditto me. Plus, I’m carrying a sidearm concealed under my jacket/Jimmy Buffet shirt.
Legally, of course.
On low carb, I have lost 55 lbs and virtually no exercise.
Like many people, I set in front of a tube all day long and it is difficult to get any measurable exercise. I do walk at lunch.
“But virtually all morbidly obese people have psychological issues.”
You hit the nail on the head. I am obese & believe me I never planned to be overweight. I realize what made me begin my food addiction. Being a victim of sexual, verbal, emotional & physical abuse from the age of 5 thru 20. Food was my friend & comforter which became later an addiction.
Freepers here giving suggestions about losing weight is fine but many do not realize what in order to lose the weight one must remove the emotional roadblock.
However, I am proud of myself that I have been attending a Emotional Behavior Weight Management Class. I have started walking, riding on my stationary bike & do aerobic on YouTube channel. I dropped like 20 lbs. & my A1C (Type 2 Diabetic) went from 9.8 to 7.8 & my Blood Pressure is coming down. This is my personal journey & I’m not giving up on myself.
Also I do not deny good food myself. EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!
What we have here is salvation for Social Security and Medicare
Obese people die young
Obesity is a damper on prosperity
Good for you! I definitely think a history of abuse looms large.
Sugar is the killer. If people keep away from that, they’ll have a fighting chance to lose weight and keep it off.
Agreed. But people need pay attention to other simple carbs too. Basically junk food.
Not for groping - just for beastiality.
Please, the polite term is animal husbandry.
By the time she comes back to the examining room I’m down to my birthday suit and warming up on the plastic skeleton!
Problem for me here (in Japan) is that most of my meals have LOTS of rice (which I don’t really even care for)..
Of course, morbid obesity is a problem. And, persons recovering from serious illness and surgery require dietary adjustments.
But, all of the hoohey about diet and foods to avoid and BMI is just a lot of BS. Most all of longevity is the result of genetics, good healthcare and avoiding tobacco and alcohol.
One is not going to play pick up basketball, jog three times a week or mountain climb with 50 extra pounds, at least not very well, and that may actually be a good thing. All of that exercise and sporting brings along inevitable injuries and hospital visits and disease. Every exercise nut I know has either orthopedic or cardiac troubles.
Fat shaming by persons who deem themselves “fit” has become a national past time. But, the truth is that Americans are every bit as fit as the rest of the Western world if you take out our populations of Hispanics and blacks. When our white populations are compared with their white populations, we are so close in BMI that no one could visually discern a difference. My favorite statistic on this point is that California has as many obese persons as the entire population of Ohio.
Yep - I’m 5’11” and average 185. 34” waist, 44” chest, 16” arms, 17” neck and obese by their standards - especially since I’ll be 65 in Nov....
Veddy goot my FRiend!
