It's not whether or not you want your currency to become a reserve currency that makes it so, it's what other people looking for a currency to use want. And I, for one, value a gold backed currency far above a debt-based currency that is forced to inflate itself year-in/year-out by its very design.
To each their own though.

It's what people are willing to pay for in the form of interest. Who is holding a gun to the heads of international traders now? Who is forcing everyone to hold dollars now?
