Self-driving car makers have been testing experimental models on a laborious state-by-state basis while everyone waits for Congress to enact national legislation. But last month, a House of Representatives panel unanimously approved a measure that would exempt tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles from current restrictions and sent it to the floor for a vote -- which just got scheduled for next week.

Here comes the beginning of the robot take over of the roads.

The end game is to have complete control of all the roads that will be piloted by A.I. Say bye bye to all those trucker and cab jobs too.

It will be sold as a good thing and safe, and will be done incrementally to slowly bring it in over the next 15 years.

Remember it's ultimately about control of people.

Poor people can’t afford cars anymore because of Congress and radiating regulations. This won’t help.

I wish Congress would stop trying to “help.”

I believe it goes deeper than that.

I think the elites see a world of mechanical servants, who take care of them from sunup to sundown, who work for free, and they have nothing but leisure time.

The end result is that the rest of us get locked out of the economy.

I think there are too many decisions that have to be taken by the driver, not the computer. A child and a dog in the street, you’re gonna hit one. Which will the car choose?

The software glitch that shuts down the entire fleet will be historic.

WTH does the United States Congress have to do with this?

Oh that’s right, they did pass the 55 MPH National Speed Limit Law way back when, including Penalties for those States that would not comply.

Do they go out of their way to violate the United States Constitution? It sure seems like it.

Sure, my PC doesn’t turn on correctly and freezes at the drop of a hat but we’re supposed to trust these cars traveling at 70 mph?

Does not compute... does not compute... does not com... erggggg... blue screen of death.

Will autonomous cop cars only be allowed to go the speed limit and stop at every red light and have to make the block instead of U turns?

Will Congresscritters’ vehicles get special to be able to double park and park in no parking zones? If not, Sheila “Don’t you know who I am” Jackson Lee will be displeased.

To be sure, deliver trucks will not get to double park so how will they ever find a parking spot for deliveries? The trucks will be driving around and around and around and around the block. Now that would be a cushy job for deliverymen.

No more clandestine affairs. The car will rat you out along with video of the back seat.

“So when they cause accidents, can the cops interrogate the autonomous vehicles to gets their statements?”

Actually I suspect this bill is for the donor class. Likely in the fine print there is language limiting liability when an experimental autonomous vehicle kills a common citizen.

Sure is.

And it will be sold as a way to make traffic more bearable.

You’ll be a criminal if you don’t sign on, because you’ll be holding up everyone else.

I’m a firm believer in this NOT being allowed.

No freakin way!

Too bad Trump can’t block it until his agenda is addressed.

He has to sign the legislation doesn’t he?

I hope he tells them to get stuffed!

Nothing you send me will get a signature until you get off your asses and address my agenda.

The only thing AI can’t cope with is the randomness of human drivers. It will occur to our wannabe overlords to ban human driving rather than to delay autonomous cars - too many rich elites stand to get even richer so who are people to stand in the way? Tough noogs, truckers and cabbies.

Human pedestrians will be an issue, too - a bunch will be smooshed. Collateral damage is expected.
