Peru’s “internal conflict”, the Shining Path insurgency was conquered due to the leadership of then President Alberto Fujimori. No question countless Peruvians were the “rubber meeting the road” but it was Fuji’s stand-up leadership that carried the day.
Nearing the end of his third-term as president, Fuji was accused of human rights violations connected to putting down the Maoist Sendero. Fleeing to Japan he was extradited to Peru. Standing trial he was convicted and sentenced to 25-years in prison.
In my opinion, in combating the Sendero Luminoso,Alberto Fujimori was faced with a brutal enemy not unlike isis, antifa or blm.
Peru should be ashamed of how they’ve treated this man.If not for him, Peru would very easily have become a Maoist cesspool.
Someone here is knowledgeable. Yep.
Unfortunately, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction in much of Latin America; Fujimori was jailed because leftists are in vogue now. They aren’t doing Peru any favors; my town here in NJ is filled with them (they are to NJ what Mexicans are to CA). Our Peruvian Day parade has been much bigger than our St. Pat’s parade for many years now...
He was just pardoned...
