70% of youths not fit to serve in military-obese,drugs,criminal records

Americans continue to get fatter and it’s delivering a huge blow to the country, both in higher health care costs and undercutting military recruiting, according to a huge new study.

The 14th annual State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America report from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation bluntly reported that 70 percent of the nation is obese or overweight.

And while the rate of obesity growth is leveling off, the costs aren’t. The report, for example, said additional health care for obese adults and children is $150 billion a year and billions of dollars more in lost worker productivity.

It is also costly to the military, said the report. Nearly one-quarter of military recruits are rejected because they are obese and it costs the Pentagon $1 billion a year in added health care costs for obese troops and their families.

More stunning, said the comprehensive 101-page report: ” 70 percent of today’s youth are not fit to serve in the military due to obesity or being overweight, criminal records, drug misuse or educational deficits.”

The report is filled with graphics and statistics showing that the epidemic is at a new high, though slowing. It also gives several recommendations to fight it.

It charts obesity in every state and found that West Virginia is at the top, with 37.7 percent obese. Colorado is at the bottom with 22 percent obese.

Some other key takeaways: Nine of the 11 states with the highest obesity rates are in the South and 23 of the 25 states with the highest rates of obesity are in the South and Midwest.

Adult obesity rates have striking racial and ethnic inequities – with rates above 40 percent for blacks in 15 states, and rates at or above 35 percent among Latinos in nine states, compared with rates above 35 percent among whites in one state.

Obesity rates are around 30 percent higher among adults without a college education and with incomes below $15,000 compared with other adults.

Most aren't jumping up and down to get into the military and the military doesn't want them.
seems like win-win to me.

The trend to acquiesce to the lowest common denominator is very troubling.

We are creating a “No fault” society full of victims that can’t meet minimum standards and those standards are being compromised by a Politically Correct army of American? Communist Subverts.

And a guys can lose the weight and get in shape... just like a guy doesn't have to wear womens panties and be in the women's barracks and call himself transgender.

Problem solved!

Military jobs are typically 40 hours/wk-just like everyone else’s. They are ON DUTY 24 hours a day. If they need to work a couple of hours a day to keep their jobs tough titty.

There were three fatties in my BCT Company. They got to take part in our extra fitness runs every morning before the rest of the Company's normal fitness activity. Two lost a lot of fat and gained muscle. None were as fit at the end as those of us lucky “acting Jack” leaders who were tasked with getting them in shape. And of course none of us were as fit as the DI’s who did it with every BCT Company one after another.

There was a small amount of physical abuse to induce their continued participation. At the end two graduated with us, the third got recycled to an incoming BCT Company.

“Military jobs are typically 40 hours/wk-just like everyone else’s.”...

Additionally, not all are designated as “front line material (”fighters”). People as described have a place and purpose in other needed positions such as clerks, cooks, etc. HOWEVER, if ever called upon they are still military and are required to “fight” when/if necessary. Hopefully they will be up to the task.

If I was eighteen years old today I would have an extensive criminal record, the were at least three of four times the police pulled me over when intoxicated, took my beer and followed me home to make sure I did not do anything stupid Not to mention the two times we were smoking pot in the parking lot of a bar and the police knocked on the window and told us we should head home ASAP <p

Today those offensives would land me in jail with a criminal record.

DAMN RIGHT; the fat, obese, quivering, buckets of lard have just as much right to serve as people who don’t know what sex they are.

We no longer have the draft and less than 1% serve. Young adults have difficulty getting traction with their lives and careers.

Any wonder we have these results.

My military background had several typical workweeks depending on the unit. Our Strategic "National Asset" units operated 24 hours a day with three shifts. We called them A, B, & C tricks.

Our Operational units, (Corp & Army level support,) generally worked 12 on 12 off.

The tactical units during peace time did the 12/12 thing too. When shooting started I had everyone working, and would try to rotate a few to sleep for a few hours as I saw the need/ability. Meals were eaten at the pos.

Not a big deal, we’ll just draft them when we need them and send them into the artillery barrage first.
You know, wait until the bad guys run out of shells.

Not really news to me. Spent 5 years as an Army Recruiter, I could, with very little effort, disqualify 50% of an entire highschool graduating class in a matter of days. To stupid, fat, criminal background, no documents, ect....

Seems it gotten more prevalent.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.
