The 5.3 jostled mytable at Applebee’s in Pocatello at 5:56 PM. Aftershocks all night. Just had another while typing here. Could hear stuff rattling on my shelves.
[There is absolutely NOTHING, ZERO any of us can do to prevent an earthquake]
You can switch to a low-energy light bulb. Joy Behar sez Earthquakes are caused by Global Warming. Who could ignore her great knowledge of the science of rockets? Also, try to combine trips in your car to reduce your carbon footprint.
[If only Trump had joined the Paris Climate Accord this wouldnt be happening.]
Yes, the only thing that can possibly save things is to send MORE American cash to foreign lands!!!.
I think you captured the liberal narrative. Yes, there are some of them that actually believe it. Scary.
Good point.

“The USGS puts the odds of a volcanic eruption at 1 in 730,000. Even if an eruption were to occur, it would likely result in lava flow rather than a cataclysmic explosion. Though this would have an effect on Yellowstone, it would not bring about the end of the United States as we know it.”

That's probably "1 in 730,000" of one happening in the next 100 years or so. Because they obviously know the cataclysmic eruptions are likely, more or less, periodic, occurring every approximate 650 or 700 thousand years apart, with the last such disaster occurring, interestingly enough, about 650 or 700 thousand years ago. I can't rcall the exact periods.
Correction: Make that, “That’s probably ‘1 in 730,000’ of one happening in the next 5-10 years or so.”
In geologic time 16.5 million years is a but a second of time or less. How did the hotspot come about in the first place?
How should I know. I'm only 59 years old!
But, seriously, I read some years ago, somewhere, that it might have been triggered by an asteroid impact in Oregon, which is where the hot spot trails begins. Don't know if there's any truth to it, or what the supposed evidence for it might be. Would be interesting to see, though. Otherwise, I guess it could simply be that magma somehow worked its way up from deep in the mantle. Hot spot magma sources lie much deeper than ordinary magma sources.
In order to see why some hot spots don’t move. We would have to look at the plates and see their movements in that area. They’re not uniform all the way across.
You are reading something into it that isn’t there. Nothing is said about 100 years.
