Nearly all my ancestors were Confederate, save a few Cherokee hiding out in the Smokies. At least 123 dead among direct and collateral ancestors, and counting. We didn’t even own slaves. The aftermath of that war was a pit of poverty and ignorance that took over a century to climb out of, they were educated and fairly prosperous, antebellum. From Reconstruction right up to at least the turn of the century, they were reduced to marking family graves with rocks. We’ve paid our penance, and proved our patriotism, fighting in every war in which this country has ever engaged. We see where our fighting men and women come from, historically and to this day, they come overwhelmingly from the south. If there’s one thing I hate almost as much as ignorant, self-righteous modern-day Democrats wrecking this country with their hypocrisy, it’s modern-day establishment Republicans playing me-too and rolling right along with them. The idiocy abounds, restricting free speech, freedom of association, freedom of religion, and they have the unmitigated gall to deem themselves conservative. Well, eff that. Tired of it, tired of hearing it, especially here on FR.

There are right ways of doing that and wrong ways of doing it.
Declaring yourself to be out, stealing and breaking stuff, and shooting cannons at forts isn't quite the right way.
Say you join the Christmas club at the bank (if they still have those things) and come in to the bank in September with a rocket launcher and grenades and demand your money.

And it's not like Congressmen were innocent babes in the woods in the old days.
Influence and political pressure were at work in past decades for powerful Southern Democrats.

We declared independence after we'd been at war for over a year.
Plus, we weren't represented in Parliament.
Southerners (mostly Democrats) had been a powerful force in US politics for over half a century.
One election goes against them and they decide on their own to give up on the United States?
Pretty strange and not something that should have been encouraged.
