Even with the Patriots and Tom Brady, the Thursday night season opener for the NFL season was down 12% from the season opener of 2016. With the number of players planning to carry on with Kapernick style protest in this new season, looks like the NFL commissioner and the owners and others who think the protests did cause last year's 8% overall drop in viewership might have more decreases to explain away this season.

Hoping this Sunday is the lowest rated opening week since 1900.

Keep hiring players who disdain the flag, and the numbers are going to go down further.

MISS ME YET?
Yes, we do Mr. Rozelle. Come down from Heaven or wherever you are and take back the league from that puke Goodell.

Not watching overpaid, un-patriotic, ghetto scum, ever.

Being a chiefs fan, I decided to end my boycott and watch the game. As soon as I saw them highlight the @hole sitting, I turned it off. I did turn it back on with about four minutes left, but I was only looking to see who won.

I avidly followed the NFL for over 50 years.
I wouldn’t watch a “game” now if they paid me.

So far, the Redskins have escaped all the overpaid, anti-American snowflake-ism so I will happily watch on Sunday. Hokies are the best, though! :^)

So the big factoid is that the 2-YEAR drop (from opening game 2015 to opening game 2017) is ....
17.5%
If that doesn't light a fire under Goodell and the owners then what will? Shall they wait for a 40% drop????
If anything like that magnitude persists over a whole season they are looking at losing billions in revenues. Of course I would greatly prefer that they cared about the substance of the issues, but when team and league revenues take a serious hit, welllll.... money talks!!!

NFL = No Fans Left
I went to the first game the Chiefs played upon moving to KC. I went to the longest game ever played, the Chiefs/Miami Christmas Day game (with my wife) and scandalized the family.
I went to a lot of games and for a dozen years the company I helped run had 8 club level seats and club passes. I met Lamar Hunt and his original GM. I met players and staff. I spent thousands on the Chiefs.
Last night I went to a pizza joint. The game was on the TV. I sat where I couldn’t watch.

If Kaperpunk somehow gets a contract, the ratings will go down even more. The only time I watch is when eating out and the restaurant has a game on, other than that—don’t waste my time.

This is going to interesting to see how it plays out. A 12% drop on top of last year is monumental and just how will it be dealt with?
In addition to the PC crap I am wondering if indeed it is also Peak NFL that I have commented on that in other threads.
Over-saturation of the markets and product could also be going hand in hand with the Public Relations problems they are having.
All these elements together could very spell a downward rating spike and then what will the NFL do with the sponsors and clauses in the contracts on ratings and rebates, etc.. It might be a costly season for the Cable & Networks in terms of AD dollars they might have to rebate and the ad rates they charge.

What? Did the NFL have a game?............not sorry I missed it.
To: Will88
Blacks are protesting because Kaepernick doesn't have a job and whites are protesting because of all the unpatriotic behavior. The NFL is screwed either way.
They brought this on themselves.

Cry me a river.
They did it to themselves.
Bet next season they’ll completely do away with the anthem. Watch for it. And watch for the numbers to drop even further.

Time for a tranny quarterback in the league. That’ll increase the ratings!

I watched the football game last night.
Sam Houston State vs Prairie View. Good game. Sam Houston won but Prairie View put up a good fight.
What? You thought the NFL? Not on your life. It's college football only now.

I found it amusing that so many sports talkers in 2016 feigned ignorance on why the NFL ratings had dropped. When they finally got the unambiguous research they flat out refused to believe it.
As expected, many of them were still heaping scorn on the polls and on the respondents and brashly predicted a rebound in ratings. Waiting for their next excuse....
To: Will88
Obviously the NFL needs to get OJ back in the Monday Night Football mix, because THAT is what it would take for me to ever watch another NFL regular season game again.
