Well if Symantec says it you know they have a high priced solution that will crash the computers every couple of days.

“Second, it is the control over power distribution that is most vulnerable to internet attack.”

Not tied to internet.

Well, let me clarify. When I said “power plant” I meant ‘power production and distribution network’. That is too long to type.

So, how can the power production and distribution grid “hacked” if it is not on the internet?

Because we have a smart grid now where power stations automatically distribute the load and keep the power up even when it should be down. You ever had the power in your area blink like it was going to go out but not? Smart grid. Enabled by internet connected power stations.

“Why is that?”

I can tell you how it is stupid but you are the only one that can answer why it is a stupid post.

Remember, originally that’s basically what the internet was. Then we got on it. Any network can be entered at some point.

“Not tied to internet.”

And no computer that has power control also has Internet access? If it does, then the power grid is connected to the Internet.

“Remember, originally that’s basically what the internet was. “

The original system, Arpanet, was set up to tie supercomputers together for research and education.

Understand that there “internet” has two meanings in this situation. “internet” as in internet protocol and “internet” as in the internet connection of companies, universities, government, etc. IOW, the web.

When I say that power distribution is most vulnerable to internet attack, I am referring to internet protocol attacks. These attacks can and do happen over private networks. Perhaps a more precise way to say that is -

The control systems of the power distribution environment uses internet protocol (IP) and is more vulnerable to attacks over their private networks due to the use of IP

To: I want the USA back
The warning was given years ago, and nobody did anything.

My thought exactly. At one time it was only theory, denial or hubris to think that the grid could not be hacked or be vulnerable to EMP. Finding out the hard way will have devastating consequences but at least the money that should have gone to protect the grid went to good use for the bloated welfare state and illegal aliens. The GOP is worthless and Obama's f-u for eight years to America will keep on for years to come.

“When I say that power distribution is most vulnerable to internet attack, I am referring to internet protocol attacks. “

Thanks, Bill.

But you didn’t respond to the issue of whether or not it is tied to the internet.

My question is, why are power stations apparently connected to the internet?

They're not.
