The bottom line is blocking Iran from having a clear line of supply, and a pipeline path, from Iran through (Shia-dominated) Iraq, and across (Iranian-allied) Syria to the Mediterranean. It is called “The Shia Crescent”.
Iran is threatening to become a nuclear-armed superpower, and is steadily moving to dominate the the entire oil production of the Middle East (which would give it the wealth to become a superpower). It very clearly aims to take over its arch rival Saudi Arabia, with its oil production and islamic holy places.
It is basically the domino theory, to contain Iran from dominating more teritory, more population, more oil, and advancing their military closer to the last remaining counter-balances in the region - Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Russia is working with the SSA. They just liberated the military airport south of the city with very heavy ISIS casualties.
The US is working with the SDF to liberate other portions of Dier, also with heavy ISIS casualties. Isis is killing anyone trying to flee and has planted mines on escape routes*.
The SSA and SDF forces are not near each other but Isis is trapped in their vice; their siege of Dier Ez Zor has been broken and soon they will be, too.

Yes, the two have battled ISIS together, but prior to that the YPG was no friend of the Assyrian Christians.

How far back do you refer? The YPG are a pretty recent organization. Was it in Iraq or Syria? Note, Kurds in Syria are very different from those in Iraq. Iraq Kurds are 98% Muslim, Syrian Kurds vary a great deal depending upon community. Some Kurdish communities in Syria have a large Christian component. Only recently I discovered that in Efrin, there is a Alevi component of Kurds, they once sheltered Christians in Iraq. For that they were treated like the Armenians by the Turks.
There are no sure things in the Middle East. I'm impressed by the honest practical side of the YPG/YPJ in Syria. I'm close to some of them. But their attitude toward Ocalan is puzzling.
I was told long ago that Syrian Kurds were very cautious to discuss how many Christians and other persecuted groups were in Syria. I found a map of Iraq once, that showed the religious makeup of the communities in Iraq. Have never seen anything like that for Syria. I'll see if I can find that map.
The SAA are Syrian government troops fighting CIA sponsored terrorists within their own internationally recoginized sovereign borders. The Russians are in Syria at the invitation of the recognized government for the same purpose, as are the Iranians.
The United States no business intervening in Syria or trying to topple the legitimate government there and the folks in DC who think otherwise need to be removed from power. And yes, I'm talking about the entrenched deep state beaurucrats at the Pentagon, the Intelligence agencies, the State Department and their elite political counterparts in Congress.
The good news is that this group of globalist parasites closely resembles the #nevertrump coalition, which begs the question ...which side are you really on?

I do agree that the western/Roman world boundary lines are artificial and inappropriate. Borders are for nations; nations contain a group of people of mostly the same culture and language.
