An absolute must read.
And reread on this day.

IIRC “The Real Heroes Are Dead”, was the genesis for
Heart of a Soldier Paperback
also by James B. Stewart

Some newcomers to the forum may not be aware that Rick Recola was a platoon leader under Hal Moore and is depicted on the cover of “We were Soldiers Once... And Young.” He served with the great FR poster Aloha Ronnie in that famous battle.

Ronnie still drops by once in a while and is always an inspiration to us all.

I’ve know some of them.

The house I live in was purchased from the widow of one, he was my friend and my father’s friend.

He came in behind the lines on Normandy with the 101st in a glider, jumped into Holland and was trucked into the Bulge.

Tears, thinking about him. They must always be remembered.

They are what will help the US survive.
