Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens has assured black faith leaders in St. Louis that the rights of peaceful protesters will be protected if unrest occurs after a judge rules in a former police officer's murder trial.
But after the meeting Monday at an AME church in St. Louis, the Republican governor stressed that any protest veering into violence will not be tolerated.

Maybe someday the rights of conservatives will be protected. Supporters of the right should be able to attend a political meeting or rally without being beaten or threatened by klansman thugs wearing black and black masks.
I live in Missouri. I didn’t support Greitens in the primaries but so far he’s doing fine. If he allows lawlessness in the face of violent protest like Jay Nixon did, he won’t serve a second term.
I only hope the mayors and police chiefs in Berkeley, Portland Sand Diego, Charlottesville etc., are paying attention and will decide to crack down on lawlessness in their jurisdictions.
This is a case where the officer is accused of shooting the suspect Smith and then planting a pistol in the car to justify the shooting. Still, I expect the officer will get off.
Only when the public gets a good look at people kneeling in prayer being arrested while surrounded by the violent legions of beelzebub
He might or he might not. He elected to have judge determine his guilt or innocence rather than a jury. All fine and good. But black leaders, including black ministers have told the judge that there will serious trouble if the man is found not guilty. This would be jury tampering if it were a jury trial. Don’t know if there is such a thing as “judge tampering”, but the threat don’t seem right.
Come on, he's a police officer who is claiming he fired because he felt his life and safety were in jeopardy. I don't know of too many cases where an officer failed to walk after claiming that.
That would be pretty hard for the officer to pull off, but I hope justice prevails.
I’m not a lawyer, haven’t played one on TV nor stayed at a Holiday in, but I’ve always thought that if you ask for a non-jury trial, you are counting on the judge knowing/following the law, and not ruling with his emotions ie. your defense depends on technical info that a jury might not follow. (Of course I don’t know about this particular judge). If the judge’s family are all L.E. you might be right. But I find it worrisome that for at least the last week or 10 days, there have been people publicly stating that they will tear St Louis apart if the officer walks. Ministers had a meeting with the judge where they said violence was likely if he acquits. At least a jury would likely be sequestered in a case like this.
I have not followed the case and the officer may be as guilty as hell. There is a claim that his (the officer’s) DNA was on the gun but the defendant’s wasn’t, but I don’t know how DNA ends up on a firearm.
Seems to me that any conviction would be overturned if that's the case. The judge shouldn't be meeting with anyone about the case outside the courtroom.
Someday I hope to hear an elected leader be it a mayor or governor tell protesters that if they block public roads they are legally roadkill.
I live in Missouri and supported Kinder but pulled the lever for Grietens in the general. So far so good with him.
I hope he stays true. I hope the natives test his resolve and he proves himself.
