Professors told to report students who make campus ‘less inclusive’ to Behavior Assessment Team
College Fix ^ | September 12, 2016 | Andrew Johnson

As colleges across the country struggle with questions related to free speech on campuses, some schools have implemented policies that appear to give administrators significant latitude to discipline students for speaking in unpopular ways.

Most recently, the dean’s office of Utah Valley University, a public institution located in the north-central part of Utah, distributed a guidance letter to all faculty encouraging them to report to the school’s Behavior Assessment Team any students who use “inappropriate language,” are “argumentative,” or who speak “loudly.”

In other words, anything a White says or does, or doesn’t say or doesn’t do because he has “White privilege” and is an oppressor, and is good only for his money which is taken and given to non-Whites.

This school isn't going far enough. My suggestion:

Round up all the "free thinkers" in every university in the state.

March them to a central holding area, or camp.

Make them go through a process of re-education. This would include lectures with appropriate punishment for those who will not get with the program.

That should do it.

Bonus question: Does history ever change?

Going to college is like living under the Pol Pot regime and paying over $50k per year for the privilege.

inappropriate language,” are “argumentative,” or who speak “loudly.”””

This is really quite descriptive of African behavior.

I can improve on your excellent suggestion. These re-education camps aren’t free; they cost money. The cost needs to be shifted to the wrong-thinking individuals who forced the state to create such camps. Therefore, productive work must be done by the workers in these camps.

To save even more money, there is no need for OSHA safety standards or for limitations on work hours.

Why should the state pay for the acts of these criminals?

Does not apply to students making the university “less inclusive” by physically attacking those guilty of Wrongthink.

People being turned over for not agreeing with the regime in charge.

Sounds more and more like the Divergent series, book and movies. People were tested for their dominant trait and lived together with like minds. The ruling group was one type and of course they did not like people who were equally capable in all areas. Independent thinkers. Not so far off for today’s liberal academics.

I would have been kicked out college today. Many years ago, I had one professor that turned class into a debate class because of me. I don’t even remember what the class was supposed to be about (history I think). Another student later commented, she learned more in that class than most others because I challenged the professor on a great many things.

To the professor’s credit, while he was a liberal, he was at least tolerant, well spoken and logical. He conceded points now and then and welcomed the debate and challenges. I learned a lot too and had moments where I too had change some long entrenched ideals/perceptions.

The guidance memo is not the issue - it’s a reasonable document to address threats from unstable individuals on campus. Can’t fault them for having a plan.

The concern is that a professor is that an Administrator has apparently tried to introduce a new definition... one we’ve seen all to often in other campuses... the whole ‘safe space’ ideology. Unfortunately the article is short on facts and attempts to attach some level of nefariousness to the guide.

The mountain is big enough... no point in trying to artificially make it bigger... that becomes a distraction.

... discipline students for speaking in unpopular ways.

That doesn’t sound very “inclusive”.

“report ... any students who use “inappropriate language,” are “argumentative,” or who speak “loudly.””

And what are they going to do when this comes back to bite them in the butt when they realize “members of under served communities” are the ones who do these things? Are they going to eject them from school? Or will these leftist totalitarians rewrite the rule to make sure it only applies to People of NonColor?
