Pretty much sums it up. You are replacing a Utah liberal with a Massachusetts liberal, of course disguised as a severe conservative, as pretty much the entire GOP establishment believes themselves to be lol!

Mike Lee himself did it against Bob Bennett. He positioned himself as Tea Party vs. Establishment, and it was the biggest scalp outside of Eric Cantor taken in the mini-purge. That's not what happened.
Bob Bennett didn't qualify to run for his seat at the state convention, and Mike Lee beat businessman Tim Bridgewater in the 2010 Utah GOP primary.
Its a moot point though, because Bridgewater is Mormon also.

If Bennett and Bridgewater weren't willing to oppose an incumbent Mormon, Bennett would have easily qualified. I gave a short form answer. But you are right, since all three major candidates were Mormon, the point was moot.

Most candidates from both parties in Utah are Mormons, they run against each other every year.

Trump won Utah.
Some Mormons are conservatives, some are RINOs, some are democrats. It’s a church, not a hive mind.

Some silly poll showed Hatch losing big to some random democrat, and it didn’t mention her party affiliation. Seems like certain forces are trying to get Hatch to retire.
Romney would probably take a page from John Curtis (District 1 Special election nominee) and skip the convention.

Scratch that, he did run at the convention but did horribly.
Danny Ainge skipped the convention, and split the conservative vote with convention winner Chris Herrod. The convention system is a good one IMO.

They sure weren’t going to vote for Hillary!! Utah voted against Hillary- not for Trump so much. Look at actions against Trump in Utah during the primary.

Utah voted against Hillary- not for Trump so much. That describes a large percentage of Trump voters from all 50 states.
