She sat next to her grandpa in the combine this was the harvest, after all and while he spoke, she listened.
He talked about his life, the good years and the tough ones. He talked about her grandmother and how theyd fallen in love. And, of course, he talked about farming, the only life hes ever known.
Ask Jina Leavitt, 41, about her grandfather, and she will tell you about these rides in the combine. He impressed her, she said, with his wisdom, his work ethic, his character. So, when she was 11 or 12, she wrote him a poem. Today, he has it framed.
"Many times his feet have walked this soil,
He has weathered both the hardships and the joy,
Enduring both the good times and the bad."
Leavitts grandfather, Milford Pete Nodlinski, is 99. In December, hell turn 100. Still, most days, he drives from his home in Grant, Nebraska, to the farm the family has run for four generations.
He has work to do.
Ive never had any hobbies, he said recently. My hobby, I always said, was trying to raise a few more bushels of wheat.
Today, Nodlinskis son Bob and grandson Jeff handle most of the farming operation. Jeff lives on the farm with his wife, Lindsay, and young sons, Landon, Barrett and Luke.
But despite back pain and the normal fatigue that comes with age, Nodlinski arrives almost every day to mow grass, run the grain cart or lend a hand wherever he can.

Thanks for the photo.
We have an almost identical Oliver Tractor and a much older Oliver 88 (tricycle front end). The 88 has been restored, looks beautiful.
We also have a single box B.F. Avery horse drawn planter that was brought here with the family from Coryell County in 1889 behind a wagon. Have some pictures of it, but it needs to be restored. Axels and bearing still operate smoothly.
Doing real work at 99.... without even reading the article I guarantee he’s a conservative....

The age is not the part that matters.
Libtards don’t do anything productive regardless of their age.
I approve of their choice of a dog.
Black Labs rule. {And drool]. :)
My own grands had a small farm [5 acres]; they grew enough veggies for themselves and to put by for the winter. A few chickens for eggs, rabbits, grape arbor for wine grapes. [No combine]. This was their little world. They had a rhythm to their life on those productive acres. The state of Connecticut decided to expand the Teacher’s College across the street from them. The state took all homes on that street by eminent domain. Grands had to move, as did their neighbors; their life, as they knew it, was shattered. Both of them were dead with two years of leaving their little Eden.
I would bet a nickel that if this 99-year-old grandpa had a sudden change to his life-long routine ...it would kill him. God bless him and his family. Family farms across the fruited plain are in danger of being a thing of the past.
Create value as long as you can.
Live long!
That is the work ethic that built America. No one ever thought of not working and living off your neighbor’s labors. Yet, the unfortunate were given help till they got back on their feet and back to work. Work is honorable, rewarding, aspirational and gratifying. Yet, they had time for their families and neighbors.

Planting new crops and harvesting our fruit trees, boysenberries, grapes, blueberries and making jams and jellies. Put up a row of green beans, in vinegar, dilly beans.
Having salsa making get together's on the weekends. We grow all the ingredients, invite friends, family, no cell phones, just music and hard work and a BBQ at the end of the day, with 28 or 42 jars of salsa under our belts.
Damn Skippy! A man after my own heart. :)
I’ve been making Salsa for the past few weeks; have 16 pints stashed, as of now.
All I have left are, ‘Chef’s Orange’ tomatoes to use up, so I’m going to try to invent, ‘Green Bay Packer Salsa’ using the orange tomatoes and green peppers.
I might be on to something here for Christmas Gifts! ;)
Glad to see there’s a few of us “old time thinkers” left.
It’s getting harder, but I still work. I’ll be 84 in Dec.
I want to be that guy.
