As Cortney wrote on Thursday, Harvard was embroiled in controversy, as the institution decided to extend a visiting fellowship invitation to convicted felon Chelsea Manning. Manning, who served in Army Intelligence, is responsible for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified materials on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Upon Manning’s conviction, she was sentenced to 35 years in prison of which she served seven years before President Barack Obama commuted the sentence. The invitation led to the resignation of former CIA Director Michael Morell as a senior fellow. Current CIA Director Mike Pompeo also canceled an event in light of this invitation as well. Now, the Ivy League school has rescinded their invitation, with an apology from the dean of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government (via NBC News):
The dean of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government said the college was withdrawing its invitation for Chelsea Manning to be a visiting fellow and apologized for extending the offer, which prompted a former CIA director and the current one to distance themselves from the university.
Former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell earlier Thursday announced his resignation as a senior fellow at Harvard over its hiring of Manning. Mike Pompeo, the agency's current director, also canceled a speaking engagement there Thursday night.
"I now think that designating Chelsea Manning as a visiting fellow was a mistake, for which I accept responsibility," Kennedy School Dean Douglas W. Elmendorf said in a statement posted on the university's website early Friday. "I still think that having her speak in the Forum and talk with students is consistent with our longstanding approach, which puts great emphasis on the value of hearing from a diverse collection of people.
"But I see more clearly now that many people view a Visiting Fellow title as an honorific, so we should weigh that consideration when offering invitations," Elmendorf added.

I've read Chelsea Manning's Twitter, and she's clearly Harvard teaching material— Alex Griswold (@HashtagGriswold) September 14, 2017
Harvard did the right thing, but it’s probably going to be a very triggering day for progressives.
Media Twitter is going to get really fucking stupid tomorrow AM.

I’m convinced, those running academia are either mentally ill, are traitors, or they simply have agendas driven by bad intent.
NO! ...HE was sentenced to 35 years in prison...
He's simply cannot become She's.
No. Can't think of "honorific" and "Harvard" as connected in any way. Nope.
I can’t take credit for the following one-liner:
“I guess this is the SECOND time he’s been an EX-FELLOW. “
Credit goes to Chris Plante
Cut your junk off, take estrogen and leak government secrets
All the key components of an Ivy-League resume.
I fully agree.
Wooses and weasels one and all.
Correct, and a he can never become a she. It is impossible
Im convinced, those running academia are either mentally ill, are traitors, or they simply have agendas driven by bad intent.
They are the intellectual yet idiots who have telling us what to eat/not eat, who to vote/not to vote for and that Gorebull Warming will drown us or parboil us.
Nassim Taleb Exposes The Worlds Intellectual-Yet-Idiot Class!
What we have been seeing worldwide, from India to the UK to the US, is the rebellion against the inner circle of no-skin-in-the-game policymaking clerks and journalists-insiders, that class of paternalistic semi-intellectual experts with some Ivy league, Oxford-Cambridge, or similar label-driven education who are telling the rest of us 1) what to do, 2) what to eat, 3) how to speak, 4) how to think and 5) who to vote for.
With psychology papers replicating less than 40%, dietary advice reversing after 30 years of fatphobia, macroeconomic analysis working worse than astrology, the appointment of Bernanke who was less than clueless of the risks, and pharmaceutical trials replicating at best only 1/3th of the time, people are perfectly entitled to rely on their own ancestral instinct and listen to their grandmothers (or Montaigne and such filtered classical knowledge) with a better track record than these policymaking goons.
Indeed one can see that these academica-bureaucrats wanting to run our lives arent even rigorous, whether in medical statistics or policymaking. They cant tell science from scientism??in fact in their eyes scientism looks more scientific than real science. (For instance it is trivial to show the following: much of what the Cass-Sunstein-Richard Thaler types??those who want to nudge us into some behavior??much of what they call rational or irrational comes from their misunderstanding of probability theory and cosmetic use of first-order models.)

He probably got it already cut off. That still doesn’t make him a she.
2 scoops of ice cream, 2 sexes and 2 terms of office, they have to get used to it, not us.
LOVE Chris Plante !!!
Neither Bradley nor Chelsea is qualified.
And what, exactly, does "taking responsibility" mean these days? In Japan it means slicing your guts open. In Japan it actually means taking full responsibility. In the last century in America it meant resigning from your job in shame. It actually meant taking some responsibility. So, what does it mean today at the Kennedy School?
"I still think that having her speak in the Forum and talk with students is consistent with our longstanding approach, which puts great emphasis on the value of hearing from a diverse collection of people.
As we can easily see, Dean Elmendorf is a very confused, weak man, and shouldn't be give authority to run even a day care center.
I’ve spent most of my adult years working in higher education - What I’ve leaned - there’s a huge chasm between intelligent and educated. And not necessarily a correlation between the two.
please do not besmirch Jack Lemmon by comparing him to Bradley - Thanks
Can’t these people see this coming?
They must live in a very tight circle of know-nothings?
