Armed LGBT student Scout Schultz shot dead by Atlanta police

Police in the US state of Georgia have shot and killed an LGBT student activist, leading to an independent investigation. Police encountered Scout Schultz at a campus in Atlanta after a call about "a person with a knife and a gun" late on Saturday, officials say. Footage has emerged apparently showing Schultz, 21, refusing to obey multiple police commands to drop a knife. Schultz's mother said police should not have used lethal force. In a video filmed by fellow students at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Schultz is heard saying "Shoot me!" while continuing to advance on the officers. One of them then opens fire. Schultz - who identified as neither male nor female - did not appear to be holding a gun, investigators said, despite what was initially reported to police.

The computer engineering student later died in hospital, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. No police officers from the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) were injured in the incident. The officer who opened fire has not been named. Schultz's mother Lynne later said Scout, who was born Scott Schultz, was politically active in progressive causes, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. She added that Schultz had numerous medical issues, suffered from depression and had attempted suicide two years ago. "Why didn't they use some nonlethal force, like pepper spray or Tasers?" she was quoted as saying by the newspaper. Schultz was the president of the Pride Alliance at Georgia Tech. "We are all deeply saddened by what has occurred," the group said in a statement. "They have been the driving force behind Pride Alliance for the past two years," the group said, using Schultz's preferred pronoun. "They pushed us to do more events and a larger variety events."

This ‘person’ can’t figure out their gender? Hint, drop trou, look down, gender will become obvious.

If that’s not definitive enough for you, request a DNA test. XY you’re a male, XX you’re a female. Doesn’t get any plainer or clearer than that.

Understood. But certainly she could keep him home, or keep her mouth shut.

"A man's got to know his limitations."

Gotta update that saying for modern times...

"A thing's got to know the limitations of its privileges."

All seems to go together, doesn’t it!

Seems to fit the descriptions of Hillary Clinton as well.

——Why didn’t you have him institutionalized instead of sending him away to be someone else’s problem, you dingbat——

In most states, it’s pretty much impossible to institutionalize a person unless they voluntarily agree..or are a clear and present danger to society and then it must be a judges order...

I know...family issue once removed...

The Correct headline should be “Man Armed With Knife Shot After Refusing to Drop Weapon and Advanced on Police”.

Being LGBTXQFRXDEFG had nothing to do with it.

This is the training the police are not getting and until tactics change they will continue to garner bad press. You have to be trained in how to avoid confrontation, especially the fatal kind.

What about a cowboy with a lasso? Or those sticky-foam hoses?

I’m not an officer, but I would have smoked that dude in the same scenario.

-——Involuntary institutionalization is very difficult to obtain.

Even for paranoid-schizophrenics. ——

Yup. My great aunt went over the edge from paranoid schizophrenic forty years ago, her daughter cannot let her know where she lives for fear of her life and still a judge will not put her in a institution.....

I think the world would be better off without the guy but he was a human being.

There are all kinds of non lethal methods when the subject appears to be a clumsy overweight guy, who also does not appear threatening.

From watching the video this was one of those rare times when they really could have shot him in the foot.

I would not, but under the circumstances the question remains what to you do with fruitcakes suffering from an innumerable number of mental issues. We closed down the nut farms that housed many of them, and raised the cost of treatment to what amounts to the unaffordable.

I want my wife to drop any dude approaching her with a knife. Especially if she gives him numerous verbal warnings.

I don’t think some dude we pay to go out there and protect our loved ones, deserves any less.

"Why didn't they use some nonlethal force, like pepper spray or Tasers?" she was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Why didn't he just drop the knife and comply?

The rank and file idiot on the street thinks hollyweird solutions actually work like shooting to wound, sneaking up from behind or one mighty blow of the fist knocking someone unconscious.

When you are a cop going to work, nothing guarantees you will be coming home tonight. They live with that each day.

Not to mention the Police could just get sick of the delusional public and get a job at Walgreens for the same pay.

My wife has been gone for may years but if she were alive I would give her the same advice.

On the other hand if I had been there and seen what I saw on the video there is no way I would have shot him. He looked really clumsy and was not acting in a hard core hyped up manner. He just looked confused.

I would first have used pepper spray and that would have worked 99.99 percent of the time. If that did not work, then go to a tazer. If that did not work, shoot the almost immobile guy in the foot.

If he ever did make a lunge at me or appear to be able to, then I would have shot him.

At that distance, if he lunges, you win but lose a spleen. We don’t pay them that much.
