I shot the pronoun
but I did not shoot the adjective.
AAAW, your dumb kid was shot dead.
TO BAD, SO SAD.
Play stupid lethal games, win permanent stupid prizes.
Don’t think of specific feet.
It’s properly called a reaction gap. Where the attacker can initiate before you can react. The reaction gap changes based on the situation and can be anywhere from within contact distance to more than 30ft away.
“They have been the driving force behind Pride Alliance for the past two years,”
Shouldn’t it be “They has been...”?
The person is still an individual. Where it would normally be “he has” or “she has” why should “they” be treated as plural otherwise?
I understand shooting crazy people waving guns, but would it be too much of a burden to have a couple of beanbag rounds for the shotgun?
Although the non-shooting officer needs to go to sensitivity training - calling a non-binary individual "man" is hurtful.
S/He met all the requirements to get itself DRT (dead right there) 21 years old inside 21 foot rule ...... knife is enough if yer not gonna be nice enough.....center mass , stop the threat. NEXT !
...Or those sticky-foam hoses?
************************************
In the Winter of ‘61-’62, I had to attend about a week of Aircraft Carrier Fire Fighting Training in Philly PA.
The foam we used to extinguish various fuel fires contained rank stuff from animal rendering facilities. The ODOR of that foam was almost as bad as the simulated below deck fires which filled the compartments with dense black smoke which blinded and choked everyone.
When these idiots congregate to ‘protest’ and commit violence or damage property, the local PD should borrow a foam truck from the airport. ...That would reduce future attendance!
“Don’t taze me bro”
Maybe, but if she knew he had serious problems and did nothing, she is negligent. State should sue her ass for his rampage and shooting.
I have to chime in here. I am NOT an expert or even a “fair” shot (compared to people I know who actually do practice or train with firearms often.) But I have shot a little (A LITTLE!!) to familiarize myself with various handguns and pellet pistols. Last go-round was with a brand new handgun whose sight I had not checked: At 20 ft., shooting at used 6 oz. (skinny) repellent cans, 4 shots punctured a can, and one seriously creased a can, all 5 shots averaged low from center (one was only 1/4” low, the worst was not quite 2” low.) It turned out the sight was about 1/2” low, the rest of the error was mine, tending low (unfamiliarity with the weapon?)
Could I hit the knee of someone running at me, even 20 ft. away? Likely not, but I’m darn sure I can hit a leg or hip, especially if I can get 2-3 shots off. Most police handguns / ammo will do a lot of damage upon impact — unless they have switched to .22 shorts?
In any case, this kid was, as you say, not moving fast at all. I did not see anything in any of the videos that I’d judge as a menacing “move”, either. So, I would support your contention on what any half-way good shot could hit or not hit, in THIS circumstance, with the caveat that the shooter would have to remain reasonably calm.
Something else bothers me a lot. Aside from non-lethal methods of dealing with suspects not armed with firearms or other weapons capable of serious injury at a distance, why is there not a “shoot to disable” zone if a suspect does not appear to have a firearm or is not charging an officer? Maybe make it 15 feet and out, with some positive allowance for circumstance.
Another question - I’m not sure I know the answer: Do we want police to be able to always use deadly force in order to assure NO risk to themselves? Or, is SOME risk in these situations “part of the job” in order to respect the life of others?
Most police shoots are justified. Probably over 90% of those that become national stories are justified. But... if I want to claim that I am “pro life”, THIS shooting, like that of Lavoy Finicum, bothers me quite a bit.
Do you know how much it costs to keep someone inpatient at a hospital long term? Also it’s up to the psych’s when they get released not the parents.
Did he have multiple personality disorder? It’s pretty rare, but if a singular person is referred to in the plural that’s the only anomaly I can think of.
I know what you’re saying but when you think about it no logical person with adequate empathy should have to be trained to do this. It should come naturally. That said, I wish we’d have investigations into these training academies and have those in charge answer for it so the public can get a sense of just what exactly is going on and why.
I just wish they would use a little more discretion. There is a difference between a bad dude with evil intent and a depressed or mentally ill possibly suicidal person. I remember years back there was a story about an elderly lady, or maybe it was a guy don’t fully remember, was in a wheel chair and no threat but because they wouldn’t drop a knife on command they were shot. (alzheimers or something I don’t know) but that showed if you just disobey police orders they can kill you. This shocked me at the time.
To me, in all the videos, he seems somehow “impaired” in his motions before being shot. I can’t quite put my finger on it. He definitely makes no “quick” moves.
(We have some people on here who act like he’s a Klingon warrior complete with, as I saw posted elsewhere, a Bat’Leth.)
You don’t use pepper spray when the perp is armed. You meet lethal force with lethal force.
Maybe the poor girl was just plain crazy, out of her head, and intent on hurting herself by proxy.
Don’t make a hero out of a loser or a mentally ill person.
