A sad fact is that many wealthy athletes end up broke or in financial difficulty after their careers.

Given the amount of money they get, you or I might set for life, financially, after earning our millions playing sports in our 20s.

But too many just don’t know how to handle their money. I’ve heard that many players also, have an entourage, who are on their payroll, which drains a lot of money away. Some of the entourage includes girls, and you can imagine that child support enters into that as well.

Once the big income stops, they cannot accept the fact that they need to cut way back on their extravagant life style. And, many will owe significant amounts in back taxes which will catch up with them.

Many athletes and entertainers simply do not have the smarts and discipline to manage money. A large percentage of them will encounter financial hardships after their careers wind down.

Its a lot easier making money than it is keeping it.
