Ground source is super nice but very expensive, it’s seldom seen outside of custom built homes for owners who plan to stay there for the rest of their lives. Radiant in-floor heat is just awesome, I envy you that. I’ve been looking at far infrared electric in floor radiant for retrofitting, cheaper than even electric heat pump, greatly enhanced comfort, easily installed. Company out of Canada. Will be playing around with a short roll of the film bought cheap off of eBay to see if it lives up to the billing before committing.

Our system is the Water Furnace brand.
Yes...no doubt it's expensive but the pay off is four years, compared to a heat pump or traditional propane gas systems. No nat gas nearby.
You're correct; we built with the idea of being here (built in ‘02) and put money in blown cellulose 2 X 6 walls, four-five feet of cellulose in the ceilings, the best windows made by Andersen. We also punched the back of the house into a hillside so half the house is “earth sheltered. “

The ground source system can be retrofitted. Instead of vertical wells, installers are now plowing horizontal pipe with a Ditch Witch. A relative put one of these in via a pond and it does work well. We live next to a lake but didn't want to chance someone’s propeller slicing into the pick up source.
