We say "wiretap" for the same reason we say "food stamp." There are no "food stamps." But the term has meaning beyond the narrow concreteness of its origin.

That is exactly what Trump said. Modern surveillance all falls under the umbrella of ‘wire tapping’. Everyone knows what he meant and everyone knows Obama called for it to aid in the election of Hillary. Most of the ‘Swamp’ is complicit and they darn well don't want anyone in ‘Flyover’ country to know.
