Her conservative CDU/CSU alliance has won 32.5% of the vote, remaining the largest party in Germany's parliament, according to the ARD poll.

Four years ago the CDU/CSU won nearly 42% of the vote and nearly 50% of the seats.

If the exit polls are accurate, they lost almost one quarter of their voters.

Four, that’s historic.

Merkel had a coalition government last time and another coalition this time. Difference is last time was with the despised grand coalition partners SPD so this result is actually better for her.
