The episode (#03) where they were going to perform a sex change on an infant was covered more from a middle to Right side of the isle position.

All the crew of the Orville was dead set against it, and defended the child against it. They even turned one of the parents against it.

In the end, the all male race on the parents home planet stepped in and forced it.

Mad the crew and one parent look good, and the home planet/race look very totalitarian.

That episode was nothing more than a homo-promo. They threw in the transgender stuff to make the gay relationships look normal.
