Tomlin chose his words carefully here. But his meaning is clear. It was not okay for Villanueva to stand for the anthem. I'm sharing this video with the Steeler fans I know.

What an a-hole, he makes it sound like President Trump created the issue and pushed “politics” into NFL teams.

WHAT B.S.

It is Colin Kaeperdick & friends who have pushed their left-wing politics onto NFL teams for the past year. Now when there is finally some push-BACK to what has been done, to all the politicized DISRESPECT for flag, anthem, and country..... suddenly people like Tomlin want to pretend that Trump created the issue. No, he STOOD UP to what was being done on NFL fields against flag, anthem, and country, because so few in the NFL had bothered to counter all the left-wing radical politics that has been infused into the NFL pre-games.

Tomlin’S remarks would lead me to believe that this was an official NFL project.

The Steelers shoulda just forfeited their game.

Didn’t they loose anyway? What was the point of the game?

There is a real possibility this could turn into locker room brawls. I can understand the coaches having bit of a hard time facing that problem.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that was what was on this coaches mind. He didn’t want other players getting P.O.d and going after Villanueva. Of course V is 7.9 tall, and weighs 277, so I think he can take care of himself, especially with his military training. Still, nobody wants bad blood in the locker room.

What’s frustrating about this, is that at every turn they seem to lean over backwards to make sure the kneelers don’t get upset. They don’t give a flying “F” about loyalist players.

The inmates are running the asylum.

Coaches, owners, the league,... “Yes fellas, and how high?”

Jumping is the new NFL side sport.

Not good.

Being a vet he recognized what most single focus athletes don’t ...duty, honor, country. How does disrespecting the flag and all of those previous generations of Americans and their sacrifices or dissing the national anthem get them the respect they say they deserve? Respect is earned not mandated.

All it took for a room full of 300 lb thugs to look small and petty in the eye of America is for one real man to stand up from among them.

Trump... I hear you had a recent sports-related visit or two cancel on you. Officially invite THE Pittsburgh Steeler to the White House. Congratulate him on his yuge victory over the Pittsburgh LockerRoomies.

Obama gave out Freedom medals for much, much less.

Steelers coach Tomlin wanted 100% team participation in the anthem protest. He almost got it.”

Yes he almost did, but that is what makes up so much of our American History someone always steps forward and STANDS THE GAP!

Was not Tomlin a huge Obutthole supporter?

Fairly sure he was, made it easier to root against the Stoolers.

"The present-day Pittsburgh Steelers exist as a paradox. They have been lead, for the last 11 years, by a black coach who was considered for the position in large part because of the Rooney Rule — a policy requiring NFL teams to interview minority candidates for coaching and upper-management positions. The rule is named after Dan Rooney — the now deceased long-time chairman of the Steelers — who was chairman of the NFL’s diversity committee when it was enacted. Rooney was also a staunch supporter of President Obama, and Obama named him ambassador to Ireland in 2009."

Tomlin was trying to have it be a team thing, that whatever they did they all had to do. They couldn’t agree on what that should be so he decided to keep ALL the players off the field, apparently not realizing that this would be just as much a statement as anything else they might have done.

I don’t know what motivated Villanueva to go against that, I doubt he’s a Trump supporter so I don’t think he was trying to be political. I choose to believe he stood and honored the flag because (a) he’s been shot at while wearing it on his shoulder and (b) he’s seen other men die because they were wearing it on theirs. And Sunday was Gold Star Mothers Day.

The NFL logo incorporates the elements of the American flag into it. Maybe they should protest the league itself and remove the logo from their uniforms. Let’s see how long it takes the league to shut that down. My guess?...about a millisecond.

This whole thing is at its core just an extension of the Hollywood celebrity social activism: A bunch of otherwise unemployable nitwits subconsciously aware that their chosen profession is of zero real world value, so they attempt to compensate by inventing causes to make themselves feel relevant and important.

Villanueva is more of man than all of the steeler pussies put together, including the coaching staff.

Are we going to let a bunch of overpaid punk thugs bully us, or are going to stand up for America and say enough is enough?

I now have an NFL team, minus one player, to root against—largely because of their head coach.

Villanueva has served overseas (more than once) in spartan conditions. Anybody who has done that knows what it’s like when the flag is raised or lowered on your base. It’s a special moment. Mike Tomlin doesn’t ‘get that’. Hopefully he’ll give it some thought.
