Fox News has a news story on our recent research showing that concealed handgun permit holders are less reckless drivers than others.

Gun owners with concealed carry permits are less likely to drive recklessly than other drivers, according to an analysis released Monday.

If car safety was stressed half as much as gun safety our insurance premiums would be next to nothing. Like with the kneeling BS as disgusting as police brutality is people are statistically more likely to be involved in a major accident getting to and from the stadiums than being shot by a cop.

As with all research, there are some outliers.

My driving has changed 180° since I started carrying.

My wife thinks it’s because I grew up.

In my state concealed carriers commit less crime than do the police.

Think about that for a second. It took me a minute to sink in before I caught the epic-ness of that stat.

That’s a telling statement. Where do you find the studies/stats that show that?

That fact was bandied about almost 20 years ago.

Partially IMO, it points to the fact that criteria for concealed carry is more stringent than criteria to become a cop.

On another, psychological level, though, it illuminates the fact that little people like you and me do not have a powerful union protecting us, and we know it, and act accordingly. I posit this is the overriding factor: fear of going to prison.

Police, on the other hand, sometimes act with abandon because they think there won’t be consequences for their actions. A lot of times they are right!

I suspect your right. If you run across any source for the stats I would be very interested.

“Indeed, it is hard to find any other group of people who are as law-abiding as permit holders. For example, while police are extremely law-abiding, being convicted of firearm violations at about 0.02 percent per year, the data for permit holders show that their rate is about one-sixth that of police.”

“Concealed Handgun License owners, who regularly carry their weapons, have a homicide rate that is just 1/12th of that of the questionably low rate amongst police officers.”
