Trump Needs to Watch Ken Burns’ ‘Vietnam War’ ASAP (Barf Alert)
Foreign Policy ^ | September 26th 2017 | Max Boot

President Donald Trump is playing a dangerous game with North Korea, risking a repeat of one of the mistakes that ensnared America in the Vietnam War — only worse. The U.S. president is castigating the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, in unusually personal and menacing terms. In early August, he threatened to unleash “fire and fury” on North Korea and then warned that the U.S. armed forces were “locked and loaded.” At the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 19, he said that if the U.S. “is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.”

The Los Angeles Times has reported that national security aides tried to get Trump to take out the taunting reference to Kim as “Rocket Man,” but he keeps repeating it. It’s the new “Crooked Hillary” or “Lyin’ Ted.” Trump reveled in the reaction the phrase, now “Little Rocket Man,” elicited Friday from the crowd at his Alabama rally, and on Sunday he tweeted, “Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!” This is a long way from the standard diplo-speak of previous U.S. presidents who warned that the U.S. would respond strongly to North Korean aggression. At the same time as the president is goading the North Korean dictator, the U.S. military is flexing its muscles. On Saturday, U.S. B-1 bombers and F-15 fighters flew farther north of the Demilitarized Zone along the North Korean coastline than they have in years.

Trump clearly has Kim’s attention. The megalomaniacal North Korean strongman responded with an unusually personal riposte of his own, calling Trump a “mentally

Burns stripped every modicum of patriotism in that garbage pseudo-documentary of his.

Max Boot, one of the leading proponents of the Second Iraq War. He should stay silent.

What? So Trump can watch the left go nuts and go too far with protests and then see a hated president be re-elected with 60% of the vote and 49 states??

Yup. That happened. And it’s happening again. Dopes.

I was wondering when the comparisons would begin.

Of course, Fubo will be left out of the conversation, you know, because he voted against the war, and he killed bin Laden, and got us out of Iraq. /s

So Foreign Policy magazine says the President needs foreign policy advice from a leftist, anti-American PBS documentary?

Imagine if some conservative policy magazine had suggested that Trump get advice on Korea policy by watching Gregory Peck in Pork Chop Hill.

Burns stripped every modicum of patriotism in that garbage pseudo-documentary of his.

Did you watch any of it?

Of course there was patriotism in the film.

But like the ad says:

There is no single truth in war.

I have to admit I just read reports of what other people said about it and truthfully I believe them. I’ve seen a couple of Burns’ films and noticed the bias in all of them.

Why should Trump be watching? Lemme guess...Vietnam is no longer Nixon's fault but is now Trump's fault?

Yes, he does have a bias, but he tries to undercut a lot of the accepted narratives about the war.

That goes for the North Vietnamese and the peace movement versions as it does for the US government and military versions.

Any show about Vietnam is going to have a bias, but that doesn't mean that it excludes everything that doesn't fit the bias or that it's worthless or not worth watching.

Boot really shouldn't be citing the program, though, since he's done his bit to get us into no-win wars himself, and whatever happens with North Korea it probably won't resemble Vietnam (or Iraq).

I’ve watched it all so far. This film must have been produced in Hanoi. Extreme communist propaganda. The kind patriot Uncle Ho was only trying to liberate his poor country from the imperialist capitalists. Blah, blah, blah.... (please ignore the 1 million men, women and children he had murdered ‘for the cause’).

Burns film is very similar to the propaganda videos they played at the Cu Chi tunnels outside of Saigon.

There is no single truth in war.

The hell you say.

Single Truth:

If you're sending your young men to die in a war you better be ******* sure you win it.

I’m saying over-all. His films have a liberal bias to it. When he did The Roosevelt’s” he really slammed Teddy because Teddy was a Republican. And don’t get me started on his Civil War thing.

Single Truth: If you're sending your young men to die in a war you better be ******* sure you win it.

So you don't get into a war you can't win.

Or you do all you can to win the war you've gotten into.

That's two interpretations and two possible courses of action.

Like Burns says, no single truth.

The war in Nam was started and lost by RAT presidents. The program did not say much about this fact of history. The producer is a known RAT supporter and so is the TV station . Defund them asap!

It was lost by South Vietnam, because they ignored the Buddhist Majority in favor of the Catholic minority.

Well, he could do what Kennedy did in South Vietnam, and let the CIA assassinate Kim.

Are you saying that Burn's account of the Maddox/Tonkin is wrong or a lie and Max Boot is too stupid to know it?

*sigh* Its sad to see the way Max boot has changed since the Bush years.

From being an ardent Bush supporter to this:
