Tanguay: All Patriots players will stand for National Anthem Sunday
CSN ^

Posted on 09/26/2017 10:23:44 PM PDT by TigerClaws

The Patriots took different approaches as the National Anthem played on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Many, including safety and captain Devin McCourty, took a knee. Others stood and linked arms.

A league source has told CSN's Gary Tanguay that every Patriots player will stand for the anthem prior to Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Patriots captain Devin McCourty explained that Saturday was an emotional day for him and his teammates as they tried to determine how best to react to Trump's comments, which referred to players kneeling during the anthem as "sons of bitches" who should lose their jobs.

Matt Light: Better ways to protest than kneeling during national anthem McCourty explains what went into decision for Patriots to kneel during anthem Troy Brown and Dan Koppen react to Matt Light comments on protest "We were obviously very conflicted," he said. "We knew our message would be perceived by a lot of people in a way that wasn’t what we were trying to put out. A lot of guys felt, I mean, all over the place about the comments by the President Friday night. As a leader on the team, a lot of guys came to me and they didn’t know what to do. They just were kind of angry.

"It was good Saturday. We all kind of talked as a group of releasing that anger and not being angry. We were in chapel and a lot of guys talked about that in our faith, God is first. We wanted to come together."

Wow—pampered millionaire thugs being shamed by America into doing the right thing.

Either stand or change the name of the team.

Boy, you are no leader.

Your entire organization does not have one, single leader.

Get lost.

From what I understand, the real rainbow has 7 colors, while theirs has 6. If this is correct, that helmet honors God, not the "agenda".

And even if not, the rainbow still first honors God's promise and always will.

Don't be fooled, or deceived it is just a deceitful ploy to get the suckers, I mean the fans back. Kraft and The New England Turncoats don't give a darn about, America, the flag, the nation or their own fans, they despise us all:

You nailed it.

They lifted up the mask and showed their true Quisling colors. I am done with the NFL.

I will watch the MLB playoffs this year--but they are on probation and better keep politics out of it.

I really do not care what they do. My tv is off for the season.

I will reconsider next year, if I can get away from my alternate activities. It is likely that the NFL will be gone forever for this person.

These leagues decided years ago to pander to patriotic fans by opening with the Anthem. Can’t have it both ways. They need to issue a massive apology and start firing the non-compliant or they’re dead as an industry...

As a (former) Patriots fan I agree with you. I will miss the games, but not THAT much. Have a thousand other great things to do, every weekend........

YES - too late for them. They picked the wrong team, they should have stayed loyal to America's team, our armed forces. Bad move, and it showed me Pats' superstarTom Brady really ISN'T all that bright. 👎🏼

“Will they put their hand over their heart though?”

They should; it’s not a win unless they do.

Trump = genius.

One tweet about a very stupid game and no one has talked about North Korea or his updated travel ban or his Bombadier tariff. In a week.

It’s hilarious.

Next Sunday will be brutal for the NFL viewership wise!!!

After all that kneeling last Sunday, pissed off viewers will tune out this coming Sunday!

I suspect the NFL will be forced to ban kneeling very soon!

I wouldn’t call it winning yet. My bet is one or more of the players will pull something.

Well, that's mighty white of them.

Lived in Chicago many years ago, back in the days of mayor Daly. Knew the city like my home town. Very dangerous even back then. Can’t imagine what it is like now.

Stand up straight, hand over heart, and show respect for your nation.

It ain’t hard.

Good on them but I still won’t watch until it becomes standard again. If even one player uses the Anthem as a part of a fake protest, and gets away with no financial/playing repercussions, the whole NFL is off limits in my home.

What are they protesting, I believe that Trump’s description of players who kneel during the anthem was right on target. Those who love America respect our flag. Those who don’t should lose their job and the ability to earn millions.

I spent a fair amount of time in Chicago and a few burbs in the 90’s. Loved it, actually. Architect’s town, so many stunning buildings, even entire older neighborhoods in the prairie style, long and low, deep eaves. Foodie town too, from excellent inexpensive diner food in huge portions all the way up the line, whatever you wanted. But, even then it was like an island less than a mile wide that went feral the further south you got, there was a line you just didn’t cross and if you did, you ran stoplights to avoid getting shot. Certain areas it was like that going inland away from Lake Michigan although the corridor out to O’Hare was very thoroughly policed. Back then, serious crime up north along Michigan Ave was not tolerated. The tourist areas were kept largely free of criminal elements. They knew where their bread was buttered. Sounds as if that’s no longer true, and if so it’s a pity, that Manhattanesque downtown but bright, clean and pretty. What a waste, and for what? Pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Yeah the Magnificent Mile up to Evanston and beyond was lovely. But west of that things became steadily more dreary. I have depressing memories of broad avenues in westside Chicago that led to nowhere, with few signs of economic viability. And everything south of the Loop was very dangerous.
