Tanguay: All Patriots players will stand for National Anthem Sunday
CSN ^

The Patriots took different approaches as the National Anthem played on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Many, including safety and captain Devin McCourty, took a knee. Others stood and linked arms.

A league source has told CSN's Gary Tanguay that every Patriots player will stand for the anthem prior to Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Patriots captain Devin McCourty explained that Saturday was an emotional day for him and his teammates as they tried to determine how best to react to Trump's comments, which referred to players kneeling during the anthem as "sons of bitches" who should lose their jobs.

Matt Light: Better ways to protest than kneeling during national anthem McCourty explains what went into decision for Patriots to kneel during anthem Troy Brown and Dan Koppen react to Matt Light comments on protest "We were obviously very conflicted," he said. "We knew our message would be perceived by a lot of people in a way that wasn’t what we were trying to put out. A lot of guys felt, I mean, all over the place about the comments by the President Friday night. As a leader on the team, a lot of guys came to me and they didn’t know what to do. They just were kind of angry.

"It was good Saturday. We all kind of talked as a group of releasing that anger and not being angry. We were in chapel and a lot of guys talked about that in our faith, God is first. We wanted to come together."

Even the biased polls show that result.

The lib media is getting nervous and trying out their other failed hate memes, out of desperation.

Cracks are developing, as you stated, in the ownership ranks. Probably too late though ... the customer base is pissed ...

More than the players, Kraft blew it.

No getting back into Trump’s good graces after his embarrassing statement.

After they see them stand, the sheep will go back to sleep, while the commies come up with their next line of attack on our beloved country, constitution, and us.

The public’s reaction is changing hearts and minds. The Patriots were booed by their own fans. As the saying goes, if you grab them by the balls, the hearts and minds will follow.

The NFL has put itself in a no win situation. To please it most of its’ fans its’ going to have to reverse itself and enforce its’ rules. But doing that will infuriate the players and coaches who have gone on records supporting the protests. I expect something to happen by next Sunday, the NFL simply can not afford to be seen as anti-American. One thing is for certain Roger Goodell is finished at the NFL.

the panic is starting to sink in...

Yes. Amazing, isn't it? We're only two days after the weekend in question and the response in every social medium I've been on has been absolutely volcanic. The players, the coaches, the owners - all of these people and their families are as dialed-in to the Internet as any of us, and they don't need some market-research statistician to tell them there's a problem here. They know it.

What to do about it, aye, there's the rub. The message they sent was that political correctness and team solidarity get priority over being an American, whether that's the message they intended (and for some of them, it was) or not. That can't be walked back. It can't be spun away, it can't even be apologized for, it's a fact and we all just got our noses rubbed in it. It's going to take more than a weekend of pretense to change that indelible impression.

When you think about it, Donald Trump can be crass at times; And the press loves to magnify it. But what the Donald did, was put the spotlight on the most loathsome creatures in the US, uncultured athletes. The left hates them the way that batter their women, etc. But he took a stand against them, and the left, took the bait, and stood up for these reprobates. It was an amazing political move !!!

they exposed themselves and boxed themselves in at the same time....this is already a black mark that will haunt this league for years to come.....any achievements that the New England Patriots accomplished went up in smoke in one weekend....go on you tube..people are burning gear and tickets left and right. They basically all stepped on one giant rake....

he said what every normal person has said for years..”over paid, ungrateful “sons of bitches”....i mean , who hasn’t said that at some time over the years...this will haunt this league for years to come...if it survives this...one or 2 more weeks of this, and its over.
