The Suicide of the NFL
Townhall ^ | September 17, 2017 | Wayne Allyn Root

This is the story of the suicide of the NFL.

Every liberal CEO in America should be watching and listening. This is a case study for how to destroy a billion-dollar business by injecting your offensive leftist politics and alienating your own customer base.

President Trump has done it again. No, I don’t mean he’s offended millions of Americans. I mean he said exactly what was on the mind of tens of millions of middle class Americans. Call us the Silent Majority. Because of Trump, our views now count.

Don’t look now but Trump just kicked the NFL’s rear end. Ratings are plummeting. Revenues are plunging. The player’s spokesman deals are being cancelled. Fans are booing. Fans are burning tickets and uniforms. Lifelong NFL zealots are vowing to never watch another game. And the #1 selling jersey in the USA is a Pittsburg Steeler backup- a former Army Ranger with the courage to stand for the national anthem.

Good summary of the current situation surrounding the NFL. The protesters and the NFL have no idea where they are going with this. The end game for them does not look good.

It’ll be interesting to see how many, if any, fans takes GB up on their request to lock arms. It’s Green Bay so I won’t be surprised if it’s still sold out, but who knows. That would be the ultimate. A near empty Packer game would be beyond awesome!

One is left to conclude that NFL owners are receiving marketing advice from Ivy League MBAs.

We can now expect to see Goodell, or his replacement, visit the White House to obtain some sort of thin concession from Trump to allow the NFL to save face, and announce to the world that there will no longer be any kneeling of the sidelines.

Where are the MSM body language experts analyzing the “apology” of Alejandro Villanueva? Notably absent, and I know why. Every gesture, eye movement, hesitation and verbal miscue point very strongly to his being under duress. In other words, he was ordered to get out there and apologize or be fired for daring to appear with his hand over his heart for the national anthem.

I laugh at the globalist, LIB asshat nfl owners who care more about their political agenda than about not insulting America. I fart in their general direction.

Trump sued the NFL for violating anti trust laws when he owned a USFM team and won. But by then the league had already folded. The court awarded the USFL $1.

So something tells me this is only the beginning of the NFL’s troubles with Trump.

As a diehard Patriots fan, seeing how they reacted was a punch in the gut. I thought, “Surely my beloved Pats will stay above this nonsense!”.
No.
Got offered free tickets to their game with the Bucs here in Tampa next month, and politely declined.
They are dead to me now.

Or there won’t be any absolution from third parties, more law enforcement will follow Geauga County Sheriff Scott Hildenbrand’s lead and bar their troops from working NFL games and the teams will be forced to publicly grovel for forgiveness.

Is there any truth to the rumor that to get all the Ravens players to stand before the game on Sunday they’re going to play the national anthem of North Korea?

Always assume your customers are 50/50 liberal vs conservative. Therefore, any political statement you make risks offending and alienating half your customers. So, shut up. Don't do it. Keep your views to yourself. Unless you want to lose 50 percent of your customers.

Best damn advice for every single business and professional. Unless you are a politician, or a professional political consultant - you keep your politics out of your business.

But what if your specific customer base is 70 percent conservative or center-right? Well then you could ruin your entire brand forever. Enter the NFL.

No, more like exit the NFL. I like his later reference that some day, the NFL's actions will be a business school case study on how to destroy your brand.

I've been a fan for many many years. No more. I'm not waiting for an excuse to go back. Not after an insult like this. If they want me back, they are going to have to earn me back. Right now, I'm not even sure that is possible.

As a diehard Patriots fan, seeing how they reacted was a punch in the gut. I thought, “Surely my beloved Pats will stay above this nonsense!”.

I feel your pain. I had been a Steelers fan literally for decades. They have a former Army Ranger as a lineman, when all this started Harrison threatened all his teammates - stand or else... I was sure the Steelers would set an example for the league and the nation. Yeah, they did alright. I'm not buying their excuse that they were trying to avoid the issue - staying off the field for the anthem was siding with the protesters. Yesterday I took down all the Steelers stuff in my office. I'll never wear any of the team jerseys or shirts again. For the first and last time in my life I am ashamed of my team. Well, what was my team. I can no-longer be associated with a group whose values and priorities are so obviously so far off from my own.

And he made his choice.

I am glad I didn’t buy his jersey.
