Californias Governor Jerry Brown visited China recently and came home with a radical new idea: banning the internal combustion engine in automobiles sold in what is already the greenest state in the nation.

Is he going to trade us a Yak and a Cart in exchange...
Good , Start with the legislature.
Funny thing about that, electric cars have been around as long as gasoline and diesel cars. Even longer. First prototypes in 1828. First hauler in 1837. So they've had 180 years to engineer them, but they're still not up to the tasks that gasoline and diesel autos perform.

Gasoline engine prototypes appeared about 1870, production gasoline autos in 1885. So gasoline powered cars are the newcomers. Electric and hydrogen powered cars predated them by half a century.
After 180 years of engineering work performed on electric vehicles, they still need many more years of work before being able to replace the gasoline powered auto. Perhaps decades of engineering work.
Running for president
Jerry Brown: proving Californian progressives are idiots for decades now.
Well, yes. But the headline says that he wants it to be “China Style,” don’t you know?
All the basic engineering work is done, motors, drivetrain, handling, etc.
The only drawback, and it’s a huge one, is THE BATTERY!
Until some ‘breakthrough’ in battery technology comes along, where it can go 300+ miles on one charge and be recharged fully in less than 30 minutes, the electric car will remain an urban commuter and rich man’s toy.
Every so often we hear of these ‘breakthroughs’ but not has come to market.
The battery itself weighs a lot, so weight must also come down to where the car can carry 4 passengers and their luggage economically.
The electric car really doesn’t solve a problem, it creates new ones................
Did Jerry the Fairy take a deep breath while he was outdoors in any Chinese urban areas? Thanks lowbridge.
Jerry’s brains, the few brain cells he had, were fried in the 60’s is what I hear.
I hope they do so we can all watch the disaster unfold and watch the idiot Democrats thrashing about trying to shift the blame to the usual suspects.
The governor has certainly indicated an interest in why China can do this and not California.
Uh, because they are communist and have no individual rights.
Scratch a liberal and their is a fascist underneath.
These f*ckers want to control everything!
Basic yes, but improvements keep coming. Decades more work needs to be done. I've read of some wheel motor improvements by the Japanese that greatly improved efficiency.
Best hope for electrics is the hybrid platform. Full electrics will never compete. Hybrids are the way to go if one wants to compete with gasoline autos. Best is a hybrid electric/gasoline auto. There are hybrid electric/hydrogen autos but not as efficient, takes too long to regenerate hydrogen onboard if using electrolysis and hydrogen stations not readily available. Hybrids can replenish batteries when braking while that energy is lost in conventional gasoline autos. I believe the day will come where hybrids are the majority of sold vehicles on the road. But gasoline engines will still be in use for decades to come.
Jerry Brown continually acting outside of his authority. He is playing a very dangerous game.
The feds are on to him. It will be interesting how this turns out.
He is too old and the American people won’t like the loon. He has done enough damage in two tours as Governor. He will be replaced by a worse Governor unfortunately, someone like Tony Villargoisa.
Good. Then energy states can sell them electricity at double the rate.
Diesel hybrids are the wave of the future...................
“They didnt call him Governor Moonbeam for nothing!..............”
See what control freaks these filthy democrat bastards are?
Perhaps.
Diesels would last longer with less maintenance.
