Help Please...Blacks Killed by Police
His Master's Voice ^ | 9/28/17 | HMV

Posted on 09/28/2017 9:40:43 AM PDT by Hillary'sMoralVoid

I know that Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Freddy Gray all tested positive for drugs. I believe that drugs in a person's system can cause irrational behavior and make it difficult for police to make split-second decisions about their motives. Does anyone have information on toxicology reports on other individuals shot by police?

Don’t forget Terence Crutcher who had acute PCP intoxication.

Let’s not jump to conclusions. Some of these folks were promising young students with bright futures ahead of them. We also need to know if they had legally attained prescriptions for aforementioned “drugs”.

(yes, that is sarcasm)

My parents were both meth addicts. That didn’t justify the police harassing me at school, kicking down our door without a warrant, and etc.

If the police are justified in shooting someone then they are justified...like with the video of the Sacramento Police shooting a murderer.

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2017/09/27/sacramento-police-shooting-videos-homicide-suspect/

But if they’re not justified then trying to justify the shooting after the fact by blaming the dead person just makes things worse.

Not that drugs are not a problem. They are.

Tamir Rice...oh wait.

In most of these shootings it isn't a split decision requirement that caused the death. It was a poor decision on the part of the officer in question. Blaming drugs doesn't change that. If split-decision, right or wrong, is justification for shooting people then why shouldn't that cop in Minneapolis who shot that lady get off?

The overwhelming majority of police shootings are justified, just as the overwhelming majority of police officers are competent men and woman doing a difficult job. But as with any profession there are a small minority who shouldn't be police officers. And when they make mistakes people die. Why shouldn't there be repercussions?

On drugs or not - thugs killed by cops is a very rare thing. You stand a greater chance of getting stuck by lightning, than being a black shot by the police.

See.... The National Anthem Protests -- Do Facts Matter?
Townhall.com ^ | September 28, 2017 | Larry Elder

NFL player Colin Kaepernick, who started the protests, did so over the supposed widespread instances of police brutality against blacks. Kaepernick said, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. ... There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder." According to the Centers for Disease Control, since 1968 police killings of blacks have declined nearly 75 percent. According to The Washington Post, almost 500 whites were killed by cops in 2015, an average of more than one a day. Two hundred fifty-nine blacks were killed by the police. Most suspects killed by police had a weapon.

Now for some perspective.

Do you know anyone who has been struck by lightning? Neither do most people. Yet each year an average of about 300 Americans are killed or injured by lightning. That's approximately 40 more than the number of blacks killed by the police in 2015. Is there an "epidemic" of Americans being struck and injured by lightning? We don't know the number of black men injured by lightning every year, but let's assume the number is 7 percent of the total people struck by lightning, mirroring the percentage of the black male population in America. That brings the average number of black men injured by lightning to about 21.

Out of the 965 people killed by the police in 2015 (as of Dec. 24), the Post reported (on Dec. 26) that "less than 4 percent" involved an unarmed black man and a white cop, the fact pattern most commonly referred to by anti-police activists like Black Lives Matter. Last year, The Washington Post put the number of unarmed black men killed by the police at 17, less than the number of blacks likely struck by lightning. Twenty-two unarmed whites were killed by the police. Any death that results from police misconduct is one death too many, but the point is that police killing of a suspect is rare, no matter the race of the suspect or the cop. And a police shooting of an unarmed black male is still more rare.

First, by now the NFL’s #TakeAKnee controversy is probably already growing long in the tooth and so I apologize if I’m belaboring it. What is below is fairly important, though, as it’s a hell of a good response to the Michael Bennetts, Kenny Vaccaros and Marshawn Lynches of the world.

And second, another hell of a good response was given by Heather Mac Donald at City Journal on Monday. Mac Donald looked through the FBI’s recently-released crime statistics and found scant evidence to support the underlying cause for #TakeAKnee. As in…

Contrary to the Black Lives Matter narrative, the police have much more to fear from black males than black males have to fear from the police. In 2015, a police officer was 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male was to be killed by a police officer. Black males have made up 42 percent of all cop-killers over the last decade, though they are only 6 percent of the population. That 18.5 ratio undoubtedly worsened in 2016, in light of the 53 percent increase in gun murders of officers — committed vastly and disproportionately by black males. Among all homicide suspects whose race was known, white killers of blacks numbered only 243.

So you have a protest based more or less on a myth, and the protest itself is obnoxious, stupid, and completely counterproductive.

Sure, that's exactly what I said.

Geez

The OP has noticed a pattern that many 'youts' shot by police have drugs in their system...and has postulated that said drug use may cause behaviors that make them seem unpredictable to police. A valid theory that deserves to be explored.

But I forgot - you can't have a rational discussion like that when it comes to weed...heck, coroners should just stop even testing for THC.

Pull 50 young people off the streets at random and the odd are more than half will have some drug in their system. Suggesting that Castille somehow acted aggressively because he smoked pot is a wild conclusion.

"Suggesting that Castille somehow acted aggressively because he smoked pot is a wild conclusion."

Who said that?

Look, when a pothead fidgets around and acts paranoid, its not 'aggressive'. The term I used is 'unpredictable'. Do you understand the difference?

Look, I already flew the white flag. I already know that there is a less than zero chance of having a rational discourse about this. I get it - pot cures at least 50 different maladies and there are zero side effects.

The absolute last thing a cop wants to do is kill anyone, it is a nightmare for him from harassment, law suits and paperwork justifying to shooting.

Just firing your gun generates problems for most cops.

Martin was not shot by a police officer. Martin was shot by a guy that Martin was trying to beat to death with a sidewalk.

My parents were both meth addicts.

I can't imagine the horror and pain a child goes through under these circumstances.

The left mocks anything concerning the "War on Drugs" because drug culture is part of them. Most violence and death is attributed to drugs and most police shootings have drug circumstances of the perpetrators. If there was the magic to eradicate drugs and addiction tomorrow, the left would lose much of its power and base. The black community, for example, would break some of those chains of "slavery" that they speak of.
