For years my uncle has occasionally mentioned a particular scam that Muslims in Texas have been engaged in. IIRC they operate gas stations, and there is a tax break for new business. When the tax break is ending they go out of business, sell it to a relative, who then starts a “new” business.

It has been at least a year or two since he has mentioned it so I’m not sure if I’m getting the details all right.

makes sense. i never considered that. I’ve seen that with chinese/asian food or nail places too. they change name or staff every few years.

Muslims run a lot, a lot, a lot of gas stations and hotels in Texas. They all are run by people with last names of Patel. However, they all swear they aren’t related. Bet there’s some hotel scam like the gas station scam.
