Ummmmm - I watched it and NBC notified us that they would stop on the hour because the Golf Channel was picking it back up. Besides, the actual golf was over close to 15 minutes before the hour. Watched President Trump get cheered loudly as he was introduced and changed channels shortly after.
My point is I have watched the PGA tournaments for years, and NEVER have I seen a BROADCAST network end their coverage on the final day, even when they run 30 min plus overtime, until all the play is over AND the tournament trophy was awarded - never. Not once, until yesterday, when they knew Trump would be making the presentation.
The Golf Channel always has coverage earlier than the broadcast channel and by itself on the first two days. On Saturday and Sunday the Golf Channel has some early coverage and ends it once the broadcast channel takes over.
On the last day, running over time or not, the broadcast channels have stayed live on the tournament until the trophy presentation was done.
Suddenly and for the first time with Trump presenting the trophy, they changed their standard PGA tournament coverage, and left before the cup presentation.
And, the fact that it could be seen on the Golf Channel did not change the fact that it was not standard past practice on major PGA tournaments, and much fewer people have the Golf Channel as one of their viewing options.
Had it been any other president making the Presidents Cup presentation, NBC would not have done that.
