I have quite a few friends from Jamaica and they are always complaining about how black Americans give them a bad name. I find it rather amusing.
We’ll have arrived when African black people don’t feel any particular taint from the bad behavior of American black people. I certainly don’t feel diminished as a white person by the bad behavior of other white people, they’re just stupid, or crazy, or evil.
I have a good friend who is a pharmacist. He’s black and was raised in Kenya. It’s unbelievable how he and his family mock and make fun of American Blacks. Really hilarious. They do not EVER want to be mistaken for American Blacks. They say these are NOT Africans.
The Jamaicans I know are very friendly and hard-working—bonus, they _like_ hanging out with white people.
This is not about race, that is for sure.

it IS amusing, but also sad: your Jamaican friends DO have legitimate complaints, unfortunately.
