Washington (CNN) - Sen. Chris Murphy said Sunday that a decision by President Donald Trump to pull the United States out of the Iran nuclear agreement would harm the US and benefit Iran.
"The President is about to impose on himself and this country a dramatic self-inflicted wound because by pulling out of this agreement, Iran will go back onto a path to develop a nuclear weapon," the Connecticut Democrat said on CNN's "State of the Union."
If the US exits the agreement, Iran would still receive sanctions relief from other nations party to the deal, and the move would also make Tehran "look like the victim," Murphy said.
"They will get everything they want," he said. In a televised interview with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee that aired Saturday night, Trump also wouldn't say if the US was planning to get rid of the Iran deal.
"In a few days from now, a week and a half to be exact, you'll see exactly," Trump told Huckabee. "But I can tell you I'm very unhappy with the deal. I'm very unhappy with their attitude. ... Iran is a bad player. And they're going to be taken care of as a bad player."

This person is a U S senator.....but is dumb enough to think the Iranians were going to keep their word?
If he’s got such strong opinions on foreign policy, he should have worked harder to get another ‘Rat and her administration in their aiding our enemies. Instead, STFU.
Trump should submit it to the Senate for ratification (with a 2/3’s vote) as a treaty. At least we could know who supports Valarie Jarrett when they raise their hands.
No. The real self inflicted wound of this Republic is that we keep electing losers like this into power.
Murphy knows he is lying.
His only goal in doing so is to diminish Trump.
It can only work in the opposite direction, so let him keep thinking that if that’s what he’s thinking.
If only we could get the money back too
If the US exits the agreement, Iran would still receive sanctions relief from other nations party to the deal, and the move would also make Tehran look like the victim, Murphy said.Well, thanks for pointing out our other enemies, Murphy. Never mind that they would keep dealing with Tehran anyway, deal or no deal, thanks to Obamas weakness on the world stage; and also never mind the fact that they treat this JCPOA as legitimate even without Irans signature and even with their giving up nothing themselves, the USA giving up everything.
Just shut up! All of them just shut the hell up!
These lying frauds.
“November 14, 1979: Carter Freezes Iranian Assets
Shortly after the seizure of the US embassy in Tehran (see November 4, 1979-January 20, 1981), President Jimmy Carter issues Executive Order 12170 freezing Iranian government assets held in the United States under the authority of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). [US President, 11/14/1979] Iran has an estimated $12 billion in bank deposits, gold, and other properties, including $5.6 billion in deposits and securities held by overseas branches of US”
Obama (Valarie Jarret) undid the only good thing Carter accomplished in his term as President.
I think it’s time we start piss testing voters for drugs. It’s probably the only way we’re going to be able to get America haters like Murphy from being elected.
This Senator has diarrhea of the mouth.
Indeed
Has anyone published the entire context of the Iran treaty?? If so I would like to read it. If they don’t want the American public to know its contents, then it should not be. The smart move for the President would be to send it to the Senate for confirmation or not.IMO it will be a “not.”
Idiot
Iran has been a full partner in the North Korean nuclear weapons program since day one and the current surge in DPRK missile and nuclear weapons development is enabled by the elimination of sanctions on Iran and funded by the hundreds of billions in ObamaBucks Iran received from the disastrous Obama Iran Deal.
It's now or never time to stop Iranian and DPRK nuclear weapons ambitions.
The cost of doing so may be heavy, the costs of failing to do so will be unimaginably horrible.
As you said, he’s a Senator.
I would say handing 1.4 billion dollars to the world’s #1 state sponsor of terrorism was a somewhat larger self-inflicted wound.
Iran has been holding up their end of this deal. No one seriously disputes that. The people pushing for war with Iran are claiming the deal is bad, not that Iran has violated it.
