Dolphins owner Steve Ross now wants players to stand for anthem, coach Adam Gase makes it a rule
Sun Sentinel ^ | Oct. 09, 2017 | Chris Perkins

Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross, who had three players — wide receiver Kenny Stills, safety Michael Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas — kneel during the national anthem prior to last week’s game said Sunday he wished they would stand for the anthem. The trio ended up standing in the tunnel during the anthem and running onto the field afterward.

Coach Adam Gase implemented a policy Sunday requiring players to stand for the national anthem. Those who don’t wish to stand must stay in the locker room or in the tunnel.

Ross, who spoke about 90 minutes before the Dolphins’ 16-10 victory over Tennessee and the national anthem, said President Donald Trump has changed the focus of anthem conversation from social injustice issues to patriotism, so it’s better now for the players to stand.

“He’s changed that whole paradigm of what protest is,” Ross during his CommUnity Tailgate gathering at Hard Rock Stadium before Sunday’s home opener against Tennessee.

“And I think it’s incumbent upon the players today, because of how the public is looking at it, to really stand and really salute the flag.”

Ross said “whenever you’re dealing with the flag you’re dealing with something different” but he remains supportive of what Dolphins players did last season...

“Right now [with] these kids you want understanding, that we really have to get out into the white community and have them accept the fact this isn’t about all black kids and the protest they have,” Ross said.

The NFL failed to score a “PC touchdown”. The game is over, and the NATIONAL ANTHEM wins!

“What he actually MEANT to say is “I wish the value of my investment wasn’t sinking like a stone beneath the waves.””

From Wikipedia:
“Ross was raised in a Jewish family in Detroit”

So he’s undoubtedly a Secular Progressive, who only worries about his wallet.

To little too late. Life long Dolphins fan here and they are dead to me. Staying in the tunnel, kneeling or locker room is not acceptable.

When I major sport disrespects the fans, the game and now the country there will be no amnesty or forgiveness. Major league baseball went on strike in 94 and ruined that season. From my prospective from that day on a pox on the players and the owners. I haven’t watched a game since, Mr. Ross how do you think you are ever going to get me back??? In hillbilly speak, You Ain’t!!!

How heroic of head coach Adam Gase to finally implement this "rule".

One wonders why the head coach didn't do this from the very beginning.

Does anyone here think that original Miami Dolphins owner Joe Robbie or legendary Coach Don Shula would have waited around to "test the waters" of public opinion first?

Or would they have done what was right from the beginning.

Unlike the Jerry Jones situation—wherein not a single Dallas Cowboys player has knelt for the national anthem in the 2 years since this controversy began—the Miami Dolphins have revealed themselves to be a third-rate franchise lacking discipline at this point. Is it any wonder the Dolphins have an offensive line coach snorting coke before team meetings?

It's finally dawning on Head Coach Adam Gase that his -ss is on the line here. It's too bad he didn't show some leadership before now. Instead, he's following the turbulent winds of public sentiment.

As for the Miami Dolphins—my team, which once posted an unprecedented 17-0 perfect season in the NFL—oh, how the mighty have fallen!

Those who don’t wish to stand must stay in the locker room or in the tunnel.

Not good enough! Stand and stand respectfully or immediate dismissal from the team/employment.

No political statements, gestures, signs of any kind should be permissible.

Stand outside with their right hand over their heart and their helmet held in their left hand.

the only way to get the fans back is to make it a rule that politics are checked at the door and anyone doing any sort of protest at the stadium will be fired.... the first team to fire a major player not a supporting player will become a anomaly with most of there original fan base coming back and perhaps growing it.

That was a coach snorting cocaine. He filmed himself to send to his hooker/mistress along with his comments of how he couldn’t wait to be with her again. She posted it online publically to get back at the white man, while the blacks are criticised for taking a knee during the anthem.

“The white people mad at me like I forced blow down this mans nose and like I recorded it on tha low,” Kijuana Nige wrote in now-deleted Facebook post. “No those are his habits and he recorded himself and sent it to me professing his love. So quick to make excuses for him but will roast a minority player over an athem, dog fights, weed, domestic issues etc. But y’all keep saying ALL LIVES MATTER STFU”

I like watching football, but it has gotten so big and out of hand, it is no longer grounded. I want to see it reboot.

You have men that are built like machines with multimillion dollar training, billion dollar stadiums taxing many cities around the country. Another billion dollar stadium every 15 years or the team threatens to leave. Scumbag players raping and killing people like a bunch of thugs.

I would rather watch high school and college ball. Support your local teams!

They play us for fools, they think they can kneel on our flag and then we will come back slobbering for more football after they ‘see the light’ and finally put some smackdown on the players.

They can F OFF AND DIE.

They can leave town for all I care. They had a chance to address it, they chose not to — instead they made it worse.

Telling people “it is OK to flip off the fans, just do it behind your back.”

There was one and only one proper response to handle this and it should have been done in week 1.

The NFL and the owners decided to not only do the right thing but double down on flipping us all off.

The NFL is dead to me.

And yes, I feel like I have been hurt by a woman I loved. I have watched the NFL religiously since 1969. My favorite sports thing in the world until now has been doing a quick analytical comment on a play and hearing the announcer say the very same thing word for word.

I am giving up a lot, but the pain of watching is greater than the pain of not doing so.

They can go to hell — NFL league, owners and players. Every last one of them.

“They only wanted us to think it was about social injustice.”

They were OK with interjecting protests for liberal causes rather they were true or not (Hands up don’t shoot, or BLM) but came down against honoring the 5 police officers killed in Dallas. If a player would have taken a knee protesting Obamacare, the fake science of global warming, the IRS persecution, fast and furious, or prostrate cancer the league’s response would have been total different.

For me there are two issues. First, it is not respecting those who sacrificed for the nation by inserting political causes. That should have not been done. Second, the league has a double standard on causes.
