Dolphins owner Steve Ross now wants players to stand for anthem, coach Adam Gase makes it a rule
Sun Sentinel ^ | Oct. 09, 2017 | Chris Perkins

Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross, who had three players — wide receiver Kenny Stills, safety Michael Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas — kneel during the national anthem prior to last week’s game said Sunday he wished they would stand for the anthem. The trio ended up standing in the tunnel during the anthem and running onto the field afterward.

Coach Adam Gase implemented a policy Sunday requiring players to stand for the national anthem. Those who don’t wish to stand must stay in the locker room or in the tunnel.

Ross, who spoke about 90 minutes before the Dolphins’ 16-10 victory over Tennessee and the national anthem, said President Donald Trump has changed the focus of anthem conversation from social injustice issues to patriotism, so it’s better now for the players to stand.

“He’s changed that whole paradigm of what protest is,” Ross during his CommUnity Tailgate gathering at Hard Rock Stadium before Sunday’s home opener against Tennessee.

“And I think it’s incumbent upon the players today, because of how the public is looking at it, to really stand and really salute the flag.”

Ross said “whenever you’re dealing with the flag you’re dealing with something different” but he remains supportive of what Dolphins players did last season...

“Right now [with] these kids you want understanding, that we really have to get out into the white community and have them accept the fact this isn’t about all black kids and the protest they have,” Ross said.

I think we’ll be seeing that ESPN newscaster who called Trump a white supremacist will be put on vacation for a bit. Apparently she’s been advocating boycotts of advertisers for the Dallas Cowboys.

Absolutely!! Staying in the tunnel is the “chicken” way out. Either they stand to be counted or go home. Either way, I’m done with those SOBs.

The NFL made the mistake of assuming their product could withstand this movement.

Too big to fail mentality.

truth is, the NFL has seen their ratings drop for years and most of us now are just throwing our hands up and saying we’re done.

Talk about CLUELESS!!! Since when does protesting our flag and anthem on a nationally televised entertainment program become the platform for “conversation from social justice issues”? It has ALWAYS been about patriotism and America. Besides, since “hands up, don’t shoot” NEVER happened, isn’t the justification for these protests based on a lie? DAMN the NFL!!

Eactly right. Someone better get a hold on this nonsense soon. I'd cringe if our Olympians kneel on their podiums next year in Korea!

Standing for the Anthem is what America is rooted in. I can disagree with someone 100 percent politically but we stand together for this country, of our own volition.

Just as Texas Governor Greg Abbott could be the judge if the Dallas Cowboys are disrespecting our country, so could Florida Governor Rick Scott could be the judge if the Miami Dolphins are disrespecting our country.

Maybe VP Mike Pence should watch Miami and Dallas games shortly...

Guess what? The NFL ban at my house is staying in effect. I can forgive a lot from family if the bad behavior stops but the NFL and I aren’t tight like that.

Makes it a rule?

It’s already a rule in the players handbook pg 62

Screw the nfl and the felon/players (around half are convicted felons). There are many, many better ways to spend your time and money.

It was the offensive line coach; and he resigned. Apparently the “lady” that video’ed him released it to Facebook and YouTube.

He was married with three kids, but I don’t know for how long that will last. He also was one one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the league.
