If we did controlled burns like we did 30 years ago, there would be fewer wild fires. But I guess controlled burns hurt the environment.

I had the same thought...You did not need to put the sarc tag...a controlled burn would hurt a lot less than losing thousands of acres and having fire retardant dropped—people breathing smoke, etc...

Something completely lost on the green people. The Indians were very aggressive with their land management.

The problem is that without controlled burns the fuel load build way up.
Take for example our redwoods. Small low-intensity fires don’t hurt them, just clears the area under them. But without those types of fires, the one that does get going carries enough energy to actually catch one on fire. They aren’t easy to get burning, very thick bark and tens of thousands of gallons of water in them...
