Something completely lost on the green people. The Indians were very aggressive with their land management.
The problem is that without controlled burns the fuel load build way up.
Take for example our redwoods. Small low-intensity fires don’t hurt them, just clears the area under them. But without those types of fires, the one that does get going carries enough energy to actually catch one on fire. They aren’t easy to get burning, very thick bark and tens of thousands of gallons of water in them...
