Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt told coal miners in Kentucky on Monday that he will move to repeal a rule limiting greenhouse-gas emissions from existing power plants, assuring them, “The war against coal is over.”
Speaking at an event in Hazard, Ky., with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Pruitt said his agency will publish the new proposed rule Tuesday.
“Tomorrow, in Washington, D.C., I’ll be a signing a proposed rule to withdraw the so-called Clean Power Plan of the past administration, and thus begin the effort to withdraw that rule,” Pruitt said.

Scott is doing an excellent job at EPA. I hope ending ethanol in gasoline is on his agenda and coming up very soon.

It was nothing less than a spiteful sin what Obama did to coal miners and their families.
It’s not a REPEAL because it wasn’t a law. Congress didn’t pass it. A president didn’t sign it into law. It was an unconstitutional executive fiat that is now being REVOKED.
Sierra Club is suing to prevent overturn of the rule. No doubt it will be filed in the 9th. We know how that will go. We should be able to count on the SC for another smackdowm but this is the same SC that called carbon a pollutant in the first place.
To be clear, the War Against Coal is Over. Barack Hussein Obama lost, Donald J. Trump won.
Many, many power plants have been shuttered 30 years ahead of their time already. Much economic damage to the US has already been done.
Most power plants were designed with 30 year life spans. With “life extension” work, they can reach 50 years. But many of the oldest plants had lousy heat rates (BTU consumed to make a kWh of electricity) and weren’t really economically viable. The only reason they were kept running was because all the government regs made it so damned hard to build anything new anywhere...including on the same property as the old plant.
Take that, Obunghole.
You’re right. To them, the destruction of American livelihoods and industry along the way to social justice is acceptable collateral damage.

I read several posts from #NeverTrumpers just a couple of weeks ago saying coal is one of the examples showing Trump will never accomplish any of his promises.
When a plant is shuttered, the fly ash storage area must be cleaned up.
I have a friend who drives a truck and has been making two drips daily from the plant to the disposal site, approximately 400 miles. He has been doing this for about three years, and has at least 4 more years left on this job.
This was a viable plant. Not a big producer, but ran during peaks. Wasn’t worth it to upgrade to the new EPA pollution control requirements.
