WISE, Va. (AP) The two major party candidates in Virginias closely watched race for governor are set for their third and final debate.
Republican Ed Gillespie and Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam will debate Monday evening at the University of Virginia at Wise. Gillespie was a senior White House adviser to former President George W. Bush.
The southwest Virginia debate comes a month before Election Day in a year when only two states are electing new governors. Virginias swing state status has led to intense national interest, with President Donald Trump recently weighing in on Twitter to attack Northam and urge voters to support Gillespie.
Southwest Virginia, home to the states economically depressed coal country, went heavily for Trump, and Gillespie likely will need similar support to win.
Old dominion freepers... can Gillespie win?
Probably. He IS the GOP Establishment's choice after all
Turd Sandwich vs Giant Douche
as bad as he is he is still better then Northam!
Yep. Those are our choices come November.
Sure, let's continue another McConnell acolyte. Just re-arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
That tired-old argument doesn't fly anymore. Eating the crap sandwiches the GOP-Establishment handed us over the last 30 years is what got us in this predicament.

I agree with your train of thought
BUT
If that D slate wins watch the AG push his BS ‘no reciprocity’ for concealed weapons again..
Northram doesn’t have National Aspirations like McAwful did.
I will definitely hold my nose and vote the R candidate but do not like it.
“As bad as Thad Cochran is, he’s better than Travis Childers!”
“As bad as John McCain is, he’s better than Ann Kirkpatrick!”
“As bad as Jeff Flake is, he’s better than Richard Carmona!”
I could go on and on...
Give up this ridiculous support of UniParty GOP candidates! The cancer runs deep, and people keep postponing the necessary but painful surgery. I don’t want to hear any more of these kinds of arguments. “If the D wins....”
So probably there will be enough milquetoast Virginia Republicans who will go along to get along and say "Oh, my! I could never vote for the Democrat! I'd better hold my nose and go for Gillespie!"
It flies with me in this instance because even a McConnell acolyte is better then a Clinton acolyte. I want the Clintons and all their corrupt ankle biter minions gone. If tactically it takes RINO to take the Va governorship to get rid of them then so be it. Its doubtful he will go much farther then Va gov.
I can’t put too much hope in VA: it’s overrun with liberals who are not from VA.
Enough voters like this, unwilling to do what is needed to oust the UniParty GOP (oooh! Clinton bugaboo! Scary! You know what's scarier? The UniParty's hold on the GOP!), and states like Virginia is lost, probably for a couple of generations. That's OK, hopefully MAGA will occur without Virginia.
Sure, he can win. He is doing very well at festivals, fairs, parades, and with radio advertising. Voter fraud in the blue areas always concerns me in Virginia, though. The Attorney General and Lt. Gov. candidates are both running solid campaigns which will have reverse coattails, I believe.
Each year I like some candidates better than others naturally, as do we all. Conservative Corey Stewart put the fire under Ed’s keister during the primary and Ed’s boldly moved to more conservative positions than he had earlier on issues such as illegals and preserving Virginia’s historical monuments.
Corey Stewart, the more conservative candidate who lost by a whisker, has announced for US Senate next year to take out Tim Kaine. Corey is passionate which sometimes affects his discernment, but one can’t deny his conservative position on issues.
Hopefully, both men will win and Virginia will be better for it.
Would love to sweep in November like we did with McConnell, Bolling, and Cuccinelli and then the RPV would have it all! :^)
What we see in politics today is the result of voters choosing the lesser of two evils. For generations.
No thanks. Done with trying to rationalize evil.
Gillespie might just win a close one with a lot of help from some very bad weather in Hampton Roads, Central Virginia and Northern Virginia.
