Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley's office said Wednesday he is reviewing the chamber's "blue slip" tradition, after Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to eliminate the tool used to block judicial nominees.

"The chairman of the Judiciary Committee will determine how to apply the blue slip courtesy for federal judicial nominees, as has always been the practice," said Taylor Foy, Grassley spokesman, in an email to the Washington Examiner. "Over the years, chairmen have applied the courtesy differently, but the spirit of consultation has always remained."

Under the Senate's blue slip procedure, a state's senators are consulted by the White House before a president nominates a judge from that state, regardless of party affiliation, according to a Congressional Research Service report detailing the blue

These two august senators better lick their fingers and check the direction of the wind.

Fire Chief Bannon is on the way.

If these two fools think we elected Trump to defer to Democrats for judgicial appointments, someone should call a hearse.

They’d have to be brain dead.

Grassley has been in D.C. since Gerald Ford was the President.

Grassley is up in 2022. He is only 84 years old.

But doing much more in Senate than Mitch.

Bah, this is fake news.
Watch what happens with David Stras.

Even Orrin Hatch ignored the Blue Slip tradition.
Grassley will only insist that the sdmin consult with the home state Senators.
Which is proper.

Pretty sure Grassley came into the Senate with Reagan. He may have been in the House when Ford was president.

This was the topic that was discussed on Jay Sekulow Live today. And they were saying that Mitch McConnell is doing away with the “blue slip courtesy,” which is another one of those unconstitutional Senate rules that is holding up the President’s judicial nominees, both at the federal and lower court levels. Not because McConnell wanted to do this, but because he has been pressured by his constituents and others on the right.

The blue slip and filibuster Senate rules should be abolished immediately as being unconstitutional and unnecessary.

OK, consult with them.

But consulting with someone does not mean that you have to take their advice.

Where is the Blue Slip in the Constitution? Find it, and I’ll be OK with it. Don’t find it, and the damned thing needs to be disposed of, pronto.

It is proper if these are merely patronage jobs which they aren't.

“Grassley has been solid so far...give him a chance”

I think Grassley needs to go! He’s the second oldest in the Senate at 83,but he’s just been re-elected to another six year term. And he’s the fourth oldest in terms of service. Behind Leahy, Hatch, and Cochran.

This looks like a game being played by McConnell and Grassley. McConnell has Grassley take the fall for McConnell’s accommodating to the Democrats. Grassley then gets something in return.

You do understand that Grassley has already used several kinds of maneuvers to speed up the President’s judicial picks? Dems have been howling about him.
