An illegal immigrant who participated in a House Democrats press conference on Wednesday complained about not being able to get a driver's license in the U.S. due to her lack of legal status.
"For an undocumented immigrant, not having a driver's license cuts our legs. You cannot work. You cannot take your children to school or the doctor," said Ingrid Vaca, who came to the U.S. in 2000.
The Bolivian citizen complained about not being able to get more government assistance as an illegal immigrant and called on lawmakers to pass a clean Dream Act.
Illegal immigrants in a number of progressive states are permitted to get driver's licenses, including California.
The Trump administration announced Sept. 5 that it would begin winding down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which provides work permits and legal protection to adults who came to the U.S. illegally when they were children.
Congress has until March 5 to pass a bill that addresses DACA, though it's not clear whether Trump would sign a bill that continues former President Barack Obama's 2012 executive action.

Trump said a lot of rapists and worse were coming in. Of course he didn’t mean everyone. Still, it’s true. Many were. Many are what you have addressed above.
I don’t know what percentage come here to grift. I do think a significant number do. I also think there are a significant number who work hard and send money back home.
We know in excess of $25 billion goes back to Mexico yearly. Does part of that go back because we subsidize those who are here? Quite possibly.
It is fair to accept that many of them are enterprising. Some of them wind up with businesses, homes, and other perks. It isn’t all from grifting.
I don’t think any illegal aliens should be here. That’s the law. It should be enforced.
Right now I think we should set a deadline about six months away. Warn every illegal to liquidate and leave. If they don’t, the U. S. Government will confiscate all property and sell it at auction and place the receipts in the U. S. general fund.
Sell your homes, any cars you don’t own or can’t take with you.
Be gone or else.
Stop all forms of aid. Refuse to admit any non legal children after the end of the 2017-18 school year.
From then on, it’s up to them how much they lose on exit.
