Are they trying to say that having no electricity would cause 90% our population to die off?

Wouldn’t take long for the economy to grind to a halt. And, if we can’t feed us, we surely can’t feed the rest of the world. Now, about that cave dwelling. Sadly a lot of libs would croak almost instantly without google search or facebook.

That’s what I am trying to understand. We’re a nation of wuss’s if 90% die within a year without electricity.

Yes, because:

As Hank Jr said, "Country folk can survive", but city folk are screwed.

I believe 90% of the millennials would die if they had to go a year without their smartphones.

Why isn't 90% of Puerto Rico dead?

I don’t know about 90%, but I wouldn’t want to be in one of the cities. Any city.

No electricity means ...
No fuel
No transportation.
No refrigeration.
No food.
No water.
No medicine.

I’d say bring in the thousands of diesel locomotives that are sitting idle across the country to generate electricity on a per neighborhood basis, but they’ve even torn up the tracks.

Yup. 90% maybe high but it will be above 50%.

Think Puerto Rico with 300,000,000 people. Grocery stores would be empty within a week if not earlier. There would be a shortage of potable water. City dwellers would be stranded, chaos would ensue.

Many people do not realize things do not happen without electricity. I am in the food industry and inventories are controlled to create efficiencies, not create a safety net for society.

“Gingrich has long warned of the threat that an EMP attack could pose to the United States, and he says Americans aren’t taking the threat seriously.”

“The reason I began focusing on this a decade ago is there are very few events you can’t recover from. You can recover from 9/11, you can recover from Pearl Harbor. This is really different,” Gingrich said. “This creates such a collapse of our fundamental productive capacity that you could literally see a civilization crash and tear itself apart fighting … internally.”

A science fiction novel called “One Second After” told a cautionary tale of the doomsday scenario that would unfold if such an attack hit the U.S., frying electrical circuits and knocking out power. In the introduction to the book, Gingrich suggested that an EMP attack would “throw all of our lives back to an existence equal to that of the Middle Ages.”

“Millions would die in the first week alone,” he wrote in the foreword of the novel released in 2009.

And he told attendees of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s policy conference that the U.S. was facing “some catastrophic problems” because of the specter of an EMP attack on the United States, and that the United States lacked a national security strategy to counter those threats. In the May 2009 speech, Gingrich suggested a pre-emptive attack on Iranian and North Korean missiles that he believed could be used to position a nuclear weapon above the United States and trigger an EMP attack.

Yes, that’s what they’re saying al_c. Read “One Second After”...

90% of millennials would probably commit suicide without access to their smart phones, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Especially if they had to actually try to meet someone in person and carry on an actual face to face conversation. That alone would put a dent in the repopulation efforts.

All the water supplies are run on electric connected to the grid. How long can you survive without clean running water?

Three days. The last day is just terrible suffering.

That number will probably be close in urban centers, most of the rest of us will just be inconvenienced. We will have power back on a few weeks one way or the other.

The EMP would also fry most transportation. There is where the major problems come in. But this assumes no other country would send transportation and work to replace the electrical grid. There is a trilogy on this by William R. Forstchen. One Second After and 2 others.
