House Democrats have introduced a number of new gun control measures in the wake of a deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas.
Among the proposals are HR.3962 to ban online ammunition sales, H.R. 4025 requiring gun dealers to report the sale of two or more rifles to the same person in a five-day period, and HR. 4052, which would ban magazines able to hold greater than 10 rounds.
Several of my colleagues and I have introduced commonsense legislation that, if enacted, would reduce gun violence and the tragic impact it has on our communities, said U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, the New Jersey Democrat sponsoring the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act.
Colemans proposal is much like a state law approved last year by voters in California in the respect that it would require federally licensed ammo dealers to directly confirm the identity of those buying ammo over the Internet by verifying a photo I.D. in-person. Also, the measure would require the vendor to report any individual sales of more than 1,000 rounds in a five-day period to the U.S. Attorney General. Garnering 29 co-sponsors, all Democrat, the measure has been referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary.
The Multiple Firearm Sales Reporting Modernization Act, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Norma Torres, D-Calf., would require FFLs to report the sale of two or more long guns to the same buyer within a five-day period to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
Currently, dealers must report multiple handgun sales while a 2011 rule that requires only dealers in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas report multiple rifle sales. Under the new proposal, it would be the law of the land.
This bill is a long-overdue update, said Torres. Our law enforcement agencies need to know if anyone is stocking up on AR-15s and AK-47s.
The measure, referred to the Judiciary Committee, has three co-sponsors including Nevada Democrat Dina Titus, whose district includes Las Vegas.
Billed as the Keep Americans Safe Act, Connecticuts Elizabeth Etsy would ban detachable magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. Backed by several gun control groups including the Brady Campaign and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Esty contends it is needed for public safety.
There is simply no good reason why sportsmen and women need more than 10 rounds in a magazine, said Esty in a statement. No sportsman or woman needs 30 rounds to kill a deer. Its shameful that we protect our deer better than we protect our people.
Referred to the Judiciary committee, Estys bill has 85 partisan supporters including virtually Nevadas entire delegation to the House apart from U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, a Republican whose district hails from the more conservative Northern part of the state including Reno and Carson City.
The bills join measures to ban bump stocks and other devices that can accelerate a guns rate of fire, mandates for smart gun use, expanded background check proposals and efforts to increase federal funding for gun crime research, all introduced in the past two weeks.
The commies HATE the Second Amendment — more exactly they hate WHY the Second Amendment even exists. It is all about them.
we should lobby to bring back firearms training in the public schools
Typical idiotic liberal doesn't know that deer rifles commonly use a five round magazine and hunters don't blaze away with a 30rd magazine in an AK or M16 to hunt with.
He also doesn't know there's hundreds of thousand 'assault rifles' out there courtesy of 0bama.
The democrats are like mosquitoes! They use every chance to introduce new laws which are only an interdiction to the people’s right to own and use guns, not any useful attempt to halt crime.
When dealing with feral hogs, you actually DO sometimes need a big magazine.
Uh...what? We kill, eviscerate, skin, and butcher deer. That's pretty much illegal to do to people, even Congresspeople, even in Chicago. I'd have to check the local laws in St. Louis and Baltimore, though...
And isn’t it peculiar how Harvey Weinstein favors, ahem, sensible gun control, GEE I WONDER WHY?
it is very amusing how some of these same communistic “liberals” (the ones who aren’t vegans) just love to eat wild game meats... like venison, elk, you name it... so much so that even some fairly proletarian groceries in very modest neighborhoods have been adding display cases full of these “fancy” meats..........................and yet they bitch about someone actually going out and getting the meat they crave
But the NRA offered them bump stocks. That was supposed to make the gun grabbers go away.
I can’t believe anyone really belived that nonsense and defended the NRA position. You don’t give the freedom-haters an inch.
This is stupid. They’re basing these laws on feelings and intuition, these masterminds ‘just know’ what the proles need. No data to support these foolish ideas.
Reminds me of the NY SAFE Act, Cuomo ‘just knows’hoe many rounds you should have in your magazine to protect you in a home defense situation. Jackasses, all of them.
"By calling attention to 'a well regulated militia,' the 'security' of the nation, and the right of each citizen 'to keep and bear arms,' our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the Second Amendment will always be important."
President John F. Kennedy
"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible."
Vice President and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey
Only “common sense”?
What happened to “comprehensive”?
We have NO IDEA what happened, but the Rats know EXACTLY how to fix it!!
Just as I thought they would do. Adding every anti-gun wet dream they have had for the last 60 years to their bill.
“Our law enforcement agencies need to know if anyone is stocking up on AR-15s and AK-47s”
And when they KNOW, what then?
“No sportsman or woman needs 30 rounds to kill a deer”
It’s not about deer hunting
What I’ve read is .44magnum or 30-30 works well on them but their magazines are tubular and in the case of a Ruger .44 magnum a five shot rotary (which I know you know ) - or a 12ga pump. In any case you have to sling lead at them pretty fast. And yep, been to some of those specialty meat stores where they have those meats they so desperately crave to show off at dinners.
