What he was saying was that he both wrote a letter and called them where as other would typically do one or the other or neither. This story is silly; he wasn’t trying to suggest others didn’t care, he was showing how much he cares

From our perusal of news reports and news databases, we could not find any contemporaneous evidence that Obama spoke about such calls or that the White House announced he had called families.
