Trump signals support for ObamaCare deal

President Trump on Tuesday appeared to signal support for a bipartisan deal to help stabilize ObamaCare.

Trump called the proposal “a short-term solution so that we don’t have this very dangerous little period” for insurance companies.

The president spoke minutes after Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) announced he and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) reached an agreement to aid insurers.

“They are working together and I know very much what they’re doing,” Trump said.

Their proposal would extend key ObamaCare payments to insurers for two years and offer states greater flexibility to waive the law's rules.

Trump announced last week he would cut off the payments, a move experts said would cause insurance premiums to skyrocket.

The president stressed he sees the Alexander-Murray plan as a temporary fix and said he plans to push forward with a repeal of former President Obama’s signature healthcare law.

“We either have the votes or [are] very close to having the votes and we will get the votes for having the potential to have great healthcare,” he said.

“We ultimately think block grants going to the states is the answer,” he added.

No. NONONONONONOONONONO. This will end up being permanent. Why should they write real insurance when the government pays for this crap?

Patriots need to get Pres. Trump up to speed with the idea that repealing the ill-conceived 17th Amendment is the ultimate answer imo. The 16th Amendment can disappear too.

Schumer on health care cost-sharing deal: We’ve put in some anti-sabotage provisions. The President has been sabotaging the bill

exactly! This cannot be allowed to be his first “Legislative victory”. This would be horrible! Especially since he said 2 years! If he does it it needs to end right in the middle of election season. Come on Trump, these people are not on your side, get a clue!

He runs around saying Obamacare is dead and now he’s willing to throw it a lifeline. What does the Democrats “give”. Nothing, this will be a disaster. No doubt there won’t be any republicans ready to kill this one

Careful. They are attempting to put words in Trump’s mouth.

No, he said he was ok with the deal they are working out and that the administration is involved. This is only bad as it’s been described to date. You’re “this” close to killing this thing, now is not the time to give it life

The key is going to be destroying Trump state Democrats in the Senate. Next year. Barring a John McCain vacancy, a better health care bill won’t happen.

We have to purge the RINOs AND the DemonRats in Trump states like Missouri, Arizona, North Dakota, Montana, etc. RINO traitors like Murkowski, McCain and Collins must be rendered powerless.

Trump can and will deliver. I look forward to him campaigning against the evil Senators of both parties next year.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls...

This may not be a bad trade-off, if it includes the provision that lets states waive the ObamaCare coverage rules. Those coverage requirements are the single biggest factor in the ongoing escalation of health insurance premiums.

If McCain goes I’m worried they are going to appoint Kelli Ward in order to keep Flake. That would be a real disaster right there. Trump said, “The Dems will come begging”. Doesn’t look like it to me at this point. What have they given on? Absolutely nothing, they’ve been far this “deal” forever because all it does is enshrine into law the subsidies. We have given away all our leverage if we allow this to happen.

When you have the leverage and you come out with a 50/50 deal you got destroyed in the negotiations. This isn’t even 50/50. The Dems outright win this crap because everyone knows that when the “temporary” time comes around they’ll just cave again. Come on Trump, stay firm on this one!

You’re right that it’s not a 50-50 deal here. It’s more like 90-10 in Trump’s favor. Giving states the authority to waive ObamaCare coverage rules is huge.

I’m willing to be proven wrong here but it seems to me that you’re paying billions of dollars to insurance companies regardless if people decide to wave Obamacare rules. This is still pure Obamacare and now it’s funded and the leverage is gone. If they plan on scrapping it by July why in the world would they need to do this for 2 years? This s a scam and Trump has been tricked unless he’s really FOR Obamacare.

Also, in 2 years people are going to be that much more accustomed to this giveaway and there is NO WAY they’ll get rid of it. Period. Bannon is right, primary everyone and let the chips fall where they may. This is hardly a winning bunch.

He’s kicking the can down the road so the Dems get to run on this again in 2020. Even if you’re going to do this why in the world would you do this for 2 years? The country loses again. He had such a good idea last week and he’s just lost the leverage he earned. Silly and disappointing.
