ICE Director: Suspected Wine Country Arsonist Is Illegal Alien Mexican National
Breitbart ^ | 19 Oct 2017 | Michelle Moons

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan confirmed on Thursday that a man arrested in connection with setting a fire in Sonoma County Wine Country is an illegal alien from Mexico who has been twice returned to his “home country.”

Homan also confirmed that ICE has issued detainer requests for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez five times now in the past year alone, including the one issued on October 16 in relation to his most recent arrest on suspicion of arson. All of the arrests were made “by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges,” according to Homan.

Sonoma County is considered a sanctuary jurisdiction and does not fully cooperate with federal immigration officials. That includes not honoring ICE detainer requests. “ICE was never notified of Mr. Gonzalez’ various releases,” Homan wrote in the statement regarding Gonzalez.

There were several fires in the region, and it is not clear what role the fires Gonzales allegedly set played in the overall disaster.

"Wine Country" isn't what it used to be.

Like all 3rd world places, a small elite and a giant underclass.

Hoho! You can’t make this shite up. Send the request for federal aid to the last city that released this guy without notifying ICE.

Gov Jerry Brown will have him released.
He has called police depts around California telling them not to arrest people as he wants to lower the prison population.

BTW Gov Jerry Brown is insane.
His policies directly resulted in people being robbed, raped, murdered and burned alive.

He does not care one bit.

It is well known that illegals set many of the western fires, they have been doing it for years. This is the first time I have seen it in print. Often smugglers and illegals set fires near the border to distract Border Patrol from their illegal activity. Some illegals set fires just by allowing their camp fires to get out of control because they simply do not care. Not sure what the motive was for this illegal to set these fires, possibly because he just felt like it.

The thing is I have never heard of an illegal facing any consequences for setting fires. I am sure he never considered any response to his actions. If a citizen sets a fire that becomes out of control they are held responsible, often financially even if it was an accident. If other than accident citizens face serious charges of arson, endangerment, ETC.

As a country we have been looking the other way as illegals violate many of our laws by coming here or remaining here illegally. We have also been looking the other way when illegals are caught with false or stolen documents, identity theft, violating employment, tax and other laws. We look the other way when illegals violate driving laws, including serious offenses like DUI. Serious offenses like domestic violence, assault, arson- illegals have been simply deported, we know how well that has been working. As a result they have no respect for any of our laws.

I really believe this is changing, I sure hope so.

Serves Sonoma right for being a “sanctuary” location.

Hey disgraceful Sonoma politicians, nice job protecting your constituents!

And Sonoma constituents, maybe you need to think about who you keep re-electing.

A friend of mine lost her daughter and her daughters fiance in the fire. They died in their own home, not having a chance to escape. This is another in a long line of albatross beads around CA's neck for murders committed by illegals in the state.

Part of it is also California environmental regulations preventing people from creating firebreaks and eliminating deadwood.

Dear Sonoma County Adminsistrator and Honorable Commissioners,

As you area aware, the person that is currently under arrest for suspicion of arson for setting the fire(s) that have recently destroyed numerous homes, businesses, and lives of your citizens, and who is now being held in your County Jail, is an illegal alien who has been twice deported form the United States for past crimes. ICE has tried on numerous occasions to work with your law enforcement agencies to detain this person for violations of the immigration laws of the United States. However we recognize that Sonoma County has identified itself as a “sanctuary county” in that you have assured this individual and others like him, that you will not cooperate with federal law and those law enforcement agencies with respect to identifying, and releasing into federal custody, known criminals that are not legal citizens or have legal status to be within the borders of the United States.

Therefore we regret to inform you that we will be denying all federal aid and assistance to your county, the local communities within your county, and to the citizens of your county, that may be required and requested from us as a result of this persons alleged actions due to your decisions to protect individuals like him.

Sincerely and best of wishes

Elaine Duke
Acting Secretary of Homeland Security

Just curious. Did any of the fires affect the Pelosi vineyards? Please know, as a former Californian who has frequented Wine Country countless times, I am heartbroken for the people who died and those suffering now. I am just wondering if the policies in California (sanctuary statuses and the ‘no brush clearing’ of the Leftists, etc.) have come back to bite those who advocated for them.

“He set on small fire. There is no way one person set all this over this wide an area. Not a good guy but not the big bad guy.”

According to reports here, he set a small fire in a county park above Oakmont Village just outside Santa Rosa in order to “keep warm.” It would remain to connect him with any of the major fires. That said, The Sonoma County Sheriff is an anti-gun a$$hole who is all in for the sanctuary $hit.

If the facts are as stated, this guy should be executed before sundown.

What facts? That a homeless guy started a fire which caused no damage?

The sheriff has stated they have no reson to connect this guy with the wildfires that caused the damage.

Don't fall for Breitbart innuendo intended to get you spun up.

Couldn’t happen to a more gullible bunch that the Libs in CA. They are a sanctuary state, so they shouldn’t expect much in the way of sympathy when the criminals whom they are protecting do criminal things.

An ongoing investigation and you know this as absolute fact and are willing to state this on a public forum. Where you there and an accessory?

My wife has family there, and yes, he's only accused of leaving a campfire, not setting multiple fires, and the last I heard, the investigation is not complete and they're not certain that his abandoned campfire actually resulted in anything bigger.

Another of the fires was started when PG&E restored power to a line that was still down, a major screw-up, and sparks started a fire. Other fires were started when high winds knocked down limbs or trees, which then took down power lines in other places and started fires. This was not one fire. It was multiple fires, exacerbated by high winds not normally seen in this area and heavy amounts of dried vegetation (grasses/scrub) that grew as a result of heavy rains in the spring, but had now dried out.
