And the article doesn't even mention the taxes, which are exorbitant. On average (it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction), the government (all levels) gets about 25-30 cents per gallon, whereas the oil companies make about 9-10 cents profit per gallon and the gas station makes about a nickel or so per gallon. Is it time to cut the gas tax, as well as deregulating?

It may be true that the spate of hurricanes are not the only reason prices are high.
But...hurricane Harvey was the exact reason that was given when prices started to spike.
So, which is it?

In the Houston area, some stations are selling gas for less than $2 / gallon. Houston has basically returned to pre-Harvey prices already.

Beats the hell out of what I was paying in 2012.
Obama and his “necessary” 4 dollars can go to hell.
That cost me thousands. If gasoline want’s to bump 2.10-2.40 so be it. That is what the nation can afford.
California, you are on your own.

I don’t think gas prices are so high.

Thanks for posting.
Excellent essay, and much information I have not read before.

It’s $2.10 a gallon here. Is that considered expensive?

It was the same under GWB. The oil and refineries appear to keep prices rock bottom low for obamas terms, regardless of the weather. Cronyism. Period.
The fed also jacked everything up.. for pure political reasons.

....the gas station makes about a nickel or so per gallon... FWIW, I'd be amazed if it was that high. Last I knew, it was between 2 to 3 cents/gallon.

Stations in VA are now making (gross) 25 to 35 cents a gallon , after taxes and before local costs .
