On average (it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction), the government (all levels) gets about 25-30 cents per gallon, whereas the oil companies make about 9-10 cents profit per gallon and the gas station makes about a nickel or so per gallon. It may be true that the spate of hurricanes are not the only reason prices are high.

But...hurricane Harvey was the exact reason that was given when prices started to spike.

In the Houston area, some stations are selling gas for less than $2 / gallon. Houston has basically returned to pre-Harvey prices already.

It was the same under GWB. The oil and refineries appear to keep prices rock bottom low for obamas terms, regardless of the weather. Cronyism. Period.
The fed also jacked everything up.. for pure political reasons.

FWIW, I'd be amazed if it was that high. Last I knew, it was between 2 to 3 cents/gallon.
